Looking down at the small dragon at my feet right outside of my cell I couldn't believe what I was seeing. This wild dragon with no real training had the keys of the dungeons in his mouth. Not just any dungeons either. It was the dungeons of Asgard. One of the most secure places in the entire galaxy. Or at least I thought it was. I guess they didn't plan for a small sneaky dragon to organize a breakout. Then again this was the dragon who found his way not only off of Dracarus but made it to Asgard from Midgard.
"Arn't you a clever little dragon?" I smiled down at it, my voice an excited whisper. "When we get back to Dracarus how would you like to join me and Eclipse? I'm sure the Dragon Riders could use a cool resourceful dragon like you."
The Terrible Terror squawked softly opening his wings. He jumped so he was hovering at face height, tilting his head he looked at me, asking a question.
"Right." I nod. "When the guards threw me in here they messed with that pad on the column here," I whisper, pointing to the white column on my right, the one that was connected to the outer barrier of my cell.
The dragon, wasting no time, fluttered over to the way I pointed, looking at the golden pad-like thing on the column. It took the keys from its mouth now holding it in his two front claws.
The keys didn't look like keys. They were instead thin gold rectangular plates on a gold ring.
The Terrible Terror leaned forward, sniffing the pad on the column, then began sniffing each key. Flipping through them. After a few minutes, it squawked happily, holing up one and placing it on the keypad. The pad lit up slightly, and then the barrier in front of me dropped.
I couldn't believe it.
I poked my head out of the cell as the small dragon flew over to me and landed on my shoulder looking quite proud of itself. I laughed softly in disbelief, scathing the Terrible Terror's chin, making it purr.
"You are definitely one of my best friends." I smile at the dragon. "When we get home I'll have to pick a name for you. How about Torch?"
The small dragon looked at me, tilting his head.
"Yeah." I agreed. "Maybe not." I looked down the hallway the Terrible Terror had come down. "So... that way?" I ask.
The dragon squawked happily in agreement.
"Alright then." I nod, quietly walking down the hall, making sure not to wake the other prisoners. Navigating the dungeons would have been a nightmare if not for the small dragon on my shoulder telling me where to go. As we walked I found out why Asgard's dungeons were considered one of the most secure places in all the galaxy. Not only did their prison cells run on magic and science, but the layout itself was like a maze. If someone managed to get out of their cell they probably wouldn't find the exit before the guards found them.
As we took another turn the lights in the dungeons flicked on, accompanied by a loud alarm. The prisoners on either side of the hallway jolted awake, startled. Safe to say this wasn't an ordinary wake-up call.
I took off running. "Safe to say someone noticed their keys missing?" I asked the Terrible Terror on my shoulder.
The dragon opened his wings. Jumping off my shoulder to fly a few feet in front of me.
We raced down the corridors, me doing my best to stay on the quick dragon's heels. Then BANG followed by a THUD. There, standing right in my path was a guard lying on the ground. The Terrible Terror that was in front of me flew around me, shaking his head like he was dazed, before landing on my shoulder.
