Leandra watches Niall and his human disappear into the distance. She turns and ducks back under the safety of the sea, rabid thoughts swimming through her mind.
She nears the glowing flowers, unsure of what to do next. She planned on a relaxing evening among the lights, but now can't see herself finding any type of relaxation.
She crouches by the flowers, stroking their delicate petals. She's always been happy here. She's the one that introduced Niall to it.
She's always been fairly close with Niall. Out of all her siblings, he's one of her favorites.
"Listen, Seamus, this is serious." Lea shrinks below the large plant leaves, hiding herself. "Ante! Hurry up!"
Lea peers between the petals at three approaching figures. Her brothers.
"It's been over a hundred years," Malacky spits, without moving his lips. They're speaking telepathically. "Father isn't going to hand the throne over of his own accord."
"You can trust me," Seamus intones, emotionlessly.
"I know," Malacky agrees. "I've never had to worry about you."
"Does that mean you worry about me?" Ante breaks in. "What? You can trust me! We're triplets, we've been together forever."
"You're soft," Seamus informs. "We're not going to make you do the deed, but you're going to help us."
"What? You want kill Father?"
"Don't be an idiot, Ante," Malacky sneers. "Do you think any of us have a chance at being king with him alive?"
"There can only be one king," Ante informs. "It's easy for you to say, you're the oldest.
"Seamus isn't interested in ruling," he responds. "But he'll have status with me. He can be free to do as he wishes without punishment."
"You mean he can kill people. I love you, Shea, but you're a psychopath."
"You just figured that out?"
"Oh no, honey, we've been together since the womb."
"I hate you."
"Enough," Malacky interrupts. "I have a plan, but I didn't want to discuss it near home."
"Are you with us, Ante?"
"Oh, yes let's kill the bastard. He's tacky and he's never liked me. What's the plan?"
"We poison Osheianious, the Ishlantian king."
"Not that I'm against it," Seamus says. "But how will that get you in the throne?"
"Because we're going to tell him Father did it. At the banquet, where Father intends to mend the whole marriage with Niall situation."
"Poor dear," Ante says to himself.
"Shut up," Malacky snaps. "One of you will place poison algae in his meal, and I will tell him I saw Father doing it. I'll warn him. Tell him to take his anger out any way he pleases. I can offer a peace treaty. Things will be mended with Ishlantia, and Father will be killed by Osheianious. None of us will appear treasonous."
"Treasonoussss!"
"Shut up, Ante!" they both scream at the same time.
In the back, Leandra stares through the vegetation in horror. Poison father? But...
"I'll do the poison part," Seamus decrees.
"Oh, don't you boys worry about the distraction. Ante has got that covered. There will be lights! Dancers! Costumes!"
"Fine, we don't need details," Malacky states. "Just keep everyone's eyes on you."
"Honey, their eyes will be gluuued."
"Great."
"Fine."
"It's settled."
