Hi humans,
I know, I'm updating early! Surprise! Hope you enjoy this next installment in Lay Me Down. I'm so excited about the next few chapters. Lots of important and fun stuff I'm going to get to cover. I'm also working on completing some one-shots to add to my "filthy" collection, so keep an eye on that as well! You'll be meeting Addie in this chapter finally, and I'm sorry to say, more of Vivian. We are weathering a huge wind & rainstorm here, plus sick kiddos so, the usual. Very busy. Also, please visit my Instagram to see the cozy artwork I had commissioned of our boys "the morning after", just for this chapter special! <3 MWAH.
But okay, all this said, I hope this finds you well and that you have a wonderful week! Please take care of yourselves, and as always, thank you so much for your continued support and kindness. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this chapter! -Quill

There it was again, that noise. Wind chimes. They were distant, yet growing louder... I groaned, still in that heavenly place between dreams and reality. Warmth from another body radiated against my thigh, and I sought the sensation greedily, wrapping my arms around a trim waist. Skin, soft and bare against my chest, breathing so slowly and even that it beckoned me to return to my dreams.
I felt like I was floating there in perfect comfort, the bedding silky against my skin. The warmth next to me wriggled a bit, twitched, soft hair swept across my chest as he readjusted. A content hum. I started to relax, mind shutting back down... but then again came the wind chimes.
Louder and louder, they became, slowly but surely dragging me back into the land of the living. With a grimace, and my eyes still pinched shut, I reached over and fumbled for the source of the sound, and then finally my sleepy fingers stumbled over my smartphone. I squeezed the side button and finally, there was silence.
The body next to me started to shift more and move around, wriggling toward me as if it were in the same class as a heat-sinking missile. My eyes were blurry from sleep. I let out a lazy yawn and dug the heel of my hand into my eyes and rubbed aggressively, visualizing faint daylight drifting through small gaps in the black-out curtains.
"Mm..." the sound of a familiar voice hummed as he started to stir, his hands drifting over my abdomen, legs brushing against mine as he squirmed and stretched. I sighed with contentment, not having slept so well in ages, and nuzzled my face into warm curls, feeling this must be close to heaven. I held him as he rubbed his eyes and let out a hefty yawn followed by the sweetest little sigh.
"Morning." He babbled, still drunk from sleep.
I squeezed him and inhaled his scent, kissing the top of his head. "Morning."
It was so perfect... too perfect.
Another yawn out of him, cheeks red and warm from sleep, sheet lines on his face.
"Mm... we fell asleep." he murmured, having yet to even open his eyes. My own fluttered shut as I held him, trailing my fingers over his bare back, soaking in the way his legs mingled with mine.
"Yeah," I mumbled. My brain was sluggish, and I felt like an old P.C. struggling to reboot. It's like my subconscious knew there was something I was missing, but in my sleepy stupor I hadn't been able to put my finger on it yet.
Lucas rubbed his eyes. "What time is it?"
The time? Fuck, the time!
I bolted upright in bed and gasped, the realization that we had fallen asleep last night slamming into me like a freight train. Anxiety shook the drowsiness from my bones, and the comfort and peace I'd been enjoying were replaced by my heart pounding out of my chest. The abruptness of my movement brought Lucas from just barely waking to fully awake.
