You burst through the front door, your walls crashing down. Sobs shook your body as you fell to your knees on the driveway. The asphalt scraped your skin as you fell, but you didn't care. Nothing else could measure up to the pain you were feeling in your heart.

You had been trying to outrun Harley when running outside, but she inevitably caught up to you. Upon seeing you on the ground, she sat down next to you and wrapped her arms around you. She didn't say anything. She just let you cry.

You two sat like that for a few minutes. Slowly but surely, you gained your composure. Your tears slowed, your sobs quieted, your body stopped shaking. Noticing the change, Harley looked at you expectantly, waiting for you to say something. Anything that would give her a clue on how to proceed.

But, you didn't say anything. Instead, you turned your body toward her and rested your head on her chest. You never would've imagined yourself seeking comfort from her, of all people, but you were feeling so low that you had to take it where you could.

She stroked your hair as you rested. Under any other circumstance, you probably could've fallen asleep right there in her arms. She had a soothing presence about her, one that made you think of a certain someone that you knew you should forget.

Eventually, you freed yourself from her grip and wiped your eyes, signaling the end of your tantrum.

"I'm sorry," Harley said as she watched you. "I'm sorry for all of it. I'm sorry for the way he treated you, I'm sorry for overstepping my boundary. I'm sorry you even have to look at me right now."

You allowed yourself a small smile at her kindness. "You're actually helping. A lot more than you know."

Her eyes darted away from yours. "Oh. Thanks. I'm glad." She was acting awkward, like she was unsure of how to take the compliment. They were probably few and far between with Joker, making her less equipped to handle that type of sincerity in the future.

You could feel things getting uncomfortable, so you stood up. "Can we go on that walk now?"

"Yeah. Yeah, I think that'd be good." She rose too, and the two of you set off. For where? You had no idea, and you suspected she didn't either.

As you breathed in the toxic air, you couldn't help but feel healthier than you had in the mansion. Even though this polluted city would likely kill you slowly, you were at least free. You could go outside without Joker panicking. You could go anywhere you wanted for as long as you wanted, no matter the threat, no matter who could be watching or plotting. And now that your reason for living was gone, you didn't care if Two-Face found you. If he killed you, so be it. You had nothing to gain from this existence anymore.

You and Harley passed by that God forsaken blue apartment in silence. That apartment was where you had ruined everything. Where you had been so useless that Joker couldn't stand you anymore.

If you had just kept your wits about you, you would still be with him. He would still be kissing you, praising you, touching you.

You tried to stop yourself from spiraling into that toxic, "what if" mentality. You tried to convince yourself that if it hadn't have been that day, you would've done something else some other day to set him off. Joker was and would always be unpredictable and volatile, even to the woman that knew him best.

He was your soulmate. Your heart would always be tied to his. You would never fall in love like this again. But, that didn't mean that things were guaranteed to work out. You needed to just cut your losses and move on. You refused to look foolish by clinging to a one-sided relationship.
