(Cameron’s P.O.V.)
“Hey. Wake up.” Oh my god! Again? Can I ever just sleep until I wake up myself? I opened my eyes and saw Nate.
“What?” I groaned
“Come on, get up. My parents will be here in a little bit.” I got up and rubbed my face
“Where is Austin?” Nate walked into the kitchen and put some dished away
“He left.”
“Typical. It’s going to take me forever to walk back.” I picked my jacket off the couch “Where are my shoes?” He pointed over to the door “Thanks.” I mumbled
“Hey wait, I can take you home.” Nate offered. I looked out the window and it was too sunny for me to walk, so I agreed. “Okay, give me a second.” He finished putting the dishes away then we got in a car.
“So you are going to Austin’s house, right?” He asked me as we were pulling out of the driveway
“Yeah.”
“Mkay. So what are you doing there?”
“The therapy thing, my family is really fucked up.” He laughed a bit
“So was mine…I use to be you. You know living in Austin’s house for three months.” He confessed
“What? Really?”
“Yeah, it was in seventh grade. I absolutely HATED him back then. He was such an asshole! But you know, sharing a bed brought us closer…as in he only had a twin size bed back then. He would always push me off and make me sleep on the floor. But I guess it all worked out, considering we’re best friends now.”
“Oh…well did you’re parents ever get better?”
He laughed “Hell no! My dad is in prison for life for killing my mom, and trying to kill me. I got adopted and now I live out here.”
“Oh, uhm…alright.” I didn’t know what to say.
“Do you like Austin?”
“No. Not really.”
“Eh, I can understand that. He’ll warm up to you.”
“Riiight… So did he tell you why he left, or, he just did it because that’s how he is?”
“Er…He didn’t tell me, I wasn’t even up when he left. You’re gonna have to ask him that one kid.” I nodded then we pulled up into Austin’s driveway. He parked the car and we said our goodbyes then he left. I walked up the stairs and I heard it. Screaming. Oh great, this otta be fun. I braced myself then walked in the house. It was trashed, glass was everywhere. Well I guess my parents have been doing some re-decorating. My mom and dad came around the corner screaming and punching each other. They had bloody faces and their clothes were torn. I dodged them and saw a note on the fridge, it said:
Gone for the night, be nice to each other. –Ella and Charlie
I ran upstairs to find that Austin was gone also. I frantically began looking around the house for Alyssa, getting hit by my dad in the process. I fell to the ground and he began hitting my mom and she began hitting him again. I got up and ran out of the house. I pulled my phone out and ran my hands over my face—I had a bloody nose…fucking fantastic. I scrolled through my contacts and found Austin’s number. His dad gave it to me so I could contact him if I needed to. I pressed call and it rang three times before he answered
