The few days later

"Daddy! We have to go to the police station! Now!"

Walking through the stations doors, she looks around seeing everyone mingling with each other while she was anxious. It pissed her off. She was so confused because he didn't say what was happening over the phone. The small family walks to the front desk seeing a woman on the phone. "Hi-" She puts her long manicured finger up to indicate that she needed a minute. Scrunching her face up, her lip twitches while the other woman cackled uncontrollably from her phone conversation.

"Yes girl! He paid for my hair appointment again though. I might take him back-"

"EXCUSE ME!" The older woman stops chewing her gum to look at the girl whose chest rises with such anticipation. "Little girl-"

"Please? I just need to know if he's okay. My boyfriend is here." The woman sighs before moving the mouse to the old computer to start it up. "His name?"
*******

"Oh pa, are you okay? What happened? No one hurt you did they?" Everyone looks seeing her kiss all over his face while she bombarded him with questions. She was worried. Imagine getting a call at 5 in the morning that your boyfriend was arrested? They took him from his home in the early morning hours and threw him in a metal cage. "I'm good, I just fucked up my hand." She gently grabbed his wrist to look for any marks or scratches on him. He winced while she looked over his hand that was bruised. "What happened?"

"So they did actually press charges? I thought you talked to them Los." The older man sighed while Dasani gave him a cold beer. He needed one while they figured something out. "When I went they were heading to the hospital already. I got there and they didn't even let me get a word out. Saying he needed to be arrested but I found some shit out. And it's not good. They dead to me. And to my family for how they treated my son. It's funny because my brother got so much support when he brought home his boyfriend while they got on my ass for being with Tiara at the time. And being a kid myself that shit hurted me causing me to hurt her. I can't do this to my kids." The adults all sighed while they tried to think of something. Imagine sleeping and cops burst into your home and aggressively snatch your child with no explanation? No matter who his father was or the texture of his hair, he was a black man at the end of the day. Seeing a bunch of white cops on one teenage boy was heartbreaking. It's scary but they were happy Wells were able to arrive when she did.

"I want that white bastards badge number! I want his name and job! He didn't have a right to touch my son the way he did. He said his wrist was hurting, I hope he didn't break it." Tashae nodded while she hugged the woman who held a cup of coffee in her hands. She didn't even have the energy for work today. None of them did.

"My sister's husband the chief of police-"

"Anni?" Dasani nodded while his wife handed him some coffee as well as Carlos. "Yeah, I can talk to him. Cause that was crazy. My babygirl woke us up. I'm sorry this happened to you guys, for real."
*******

"I don't see how this big head boy can sleep at a time like this." She giggles seeing him slowly move while he slept on her chest. She was hurt. He could barely move his right wrist and that was the hand he did everything with. His right hand. She brushed the tiny curls on the back of his neck with her thumb while he snored.

"Them niggas was looking at me like I was fresh meat, I wasn't finna sleep in that dirty ass cell. Had my legs crossed and everything." She bursts out in laughter as he murmured words into her breast. He could lighten up a mood in a minute and she loved that about him.

"But really how do you feel?" His lowered eyes dropped to a sad expression while she rubbed his head. "I was scared. I didn't want to be on the news too." He didn't know if he was going to even make it to the police station. He didn't know if he was going to survive. All them men for one teenage boy? He was scared.

"Nig was in a cell for a couple hours and came out eating like he was starving for days." They all laugh seeing the young man annihilate his food that his mother made. She made burgers, which he loved with potato salad, mac and cheese, and baked beans. There was enough for everyone.

"I missed you though." Lou kissed his cheek before returning back to his plate. He did miss his big brother and after talking with his mother, he realized his brother was much older than him. He was bound to leave anyways but he was gonna miss him and him being gone like that even for a little while? It scared him. And seeing him on the floor in handcuffs really changed his life.

"Hello everyone-"

"I made food, would you like some? It's enough for everyone. Come on." The older woman nodded before following the older woman. Walking into the kitchen, she smiles seeing black everywhere. In different shades and sizes. She loved seeing a big black family. "Hi, I just came to check on everyone. I know everything was stressful and don't worry. I will handle everything." Everyone nodded while she said thank you to the woman who handed her a big plate of food.

"Hm." She watched as Lou walked by with his plate in hand and a squint of caution leaving her confused. "Boy go sit yo' ass down."

"They also dropped the charges-" She took a bite of her burger while everyone smiled. He worked so hard and he didn't deserve to get anything taken from him Casue of jealousy.

"Huh? Really?" She nodded once gain before taking a bite out of the beans with a light smile. It reminded her of back home in Ohio. A sunny day with the picnic benches filled with food and love. "Yes, you don't have to worry. Go get that money and go to the leagues because boy you is good!" Everyone laughed while she nodded at his sports ethic. He was great. He had amazing form and sportsmanship. She knew he would make it far. "I will ma'am."

"Good, any colleges?" He nods while she took a bite from the potato salad. "Yes ma'am-"

"Hold on a minute. Excuse me but who made this salad?" Tiara closed her oven while everyone's gaze fell upon her who somehow became nervous. It was her mother's recipe. Her mother was African American while her father was Bahamian. Before they died, they gave her a locket and a cookbook which she cherished forever with a mix of both cultures. "I did."

"That's the best salad I've ever had! I mean, I come from some good chefs but gosh damn! May I have some more please?" Tiara nodded with a big smile before she walked to get the plate.

"Thank you."
*******

"My baby a jailbird." He chuckled while she rubbed his head that rested on her belly. He couldn't lie and say he wasn't scared because he was. Being manhandled and treated like garbage was truly an eye opener for him. It doesn't matter where you come from or where you going. Some people can't get past the fact, everyone has that same red shit that pours from their hair.
