Sunlight rushed in through my window and baked my face. My alarm released its ear piercing buzzing from across the room. I rolled off my bed and flopped onto the hardwood floors, as I dragged my comforter. The alarm was on the other side of the room so I wouldn't just hit the snooze and go back to sleep, or it was supposed to work like that.My body inched itself towards the alarm clock by moving the same way caterpillars do. When I made it to the alarm clock I slammed the snooze button and rolled up into a ball. Moments later, when I was falling back asleep my door burst open.
My entire body reacted, and I felt like I was falling until I realized I was on the floor.
I turned my eyes only to see Josh in his boxers. Toothpaste coated the outside ring of his mouth. Josh stared down at me and tried to speak,"arf u suppose ta get weady fo cool?" A glob of toothpaste shot from his mouth and landed smack dab in my cheek.
Josh's eyes looked like they had popped out of his head. He tried to contain his laugh but ended up snorting a glob of toothpaste. Josh ran out of my room and dashed for the bathroom. I could hear him yelling,"It burns! My nostrils, they're on fire!"
I let out a snorting laugh, and then wiped the glob of toothpaste with my blanket. My arm reached my bedroom, and grasped the wood and slammed the door shut. I banged my head against the floor, and let out a deep sigh, before I sat up. The floor was littered with clothes and shoes. The hardwood was buried under the clothes, so I could hardly remember what color the floors were stained. Underneath my bed, there were questionable objects, too obscure to keep my sanity. I ignored the mess in my room for a moment and looked into the mirror. My thick copper brown hair frizzed into a hot mess, and my eyes expressionless.
"This is my true form, the makings of a rare female serial killer,"I muttered sarcastically.
I pulled myself to my feet. Sunlight bounced off of my necklace. The pendant's diamond perimeter projected the entire color spectrum onto the wall. The square, violet center sent an awe inspiring reflection onto the wall. I moved my hand down the thin silver chain, and caressed the glistening pendant in my hand. My eyes wandered down to the necklace and my mouth fell into a frown. A tear rolled down my cheek, but I quickly wiped it away. Memories flashed in my mind. All I could see was my mother throwing me into the air, only to catch me. Her smile outshone the sun with her glistening maroon lipstick. Her soft brown eyes always looked at me with kindness. Needle straight, jet black hair framed her strong jawline, and complimented her tan skin. Whenever I looked at her, it felt like I couldn't be sad anymore. But now she's gone, and all I have is a necklace and one memory of her. How lucky am I?
I flushed the thoughts from my mind, and finally decided to get ready. I slip on my jeans and tuck them away in my laced combat boots. My maroon scarf hides the scar between my shoulder and neck and overlapped my sweatshirt. I comb the ends of my hair and tie them in a side ponytail.
I grabbed my backpack and headed towards the door, but a voice echoes from the kitchen. "Don't leave this house without eating something!" Josh shouts from the kitchen.
A small sigh left under my breathe, and I turned on my heel towards the kitchen. "In all technicalities this is an apartment," I spoke smugly, before grabbing an apple off the counter.
"The sass is strong with this one," he replies just as smugly.
"Let me know when you stop reading stuff off the cereal boxes, yoda," I retort pompously. Taking a large bite out of the apple and make my way towards the door again. Though I could subtly hear Josh's voice from the kitchen mutter,"That was one time..."
