"Didn't know you was into gingers, Malfoy?"
"Shut up Weasley"

The morning air was thick with that particular brand of tension unique to exam season-anxiety, frustration, and the vague hope that maybe, just maybe, Professor Flitwick had tripped on his way to the Great Hall and the whole thing would be rescheduled. No such luck.
Seamus, Dean, and I made our way toward the Great Hall, where the OWL writing exam was set to take place. Seamus was practically bouncing with nervous energy, while Dean had an annoyingly serene expression- as if he had accepted his fate as either genius or failure. I, on the other hand, was somewhere in the middle-too aware of how little I had revised but too resigned to do anything about it now.
"You're going to be fine," Dean said as I groaned for the third time in a row about not revising. "You always land on your feet."
"That's a cat, Dean," I muttered.
He shrugged. "Same thing."
Seamus laughed. "Nah, I think she's more like a Niffler-always distracted by shiny things."
"Like my boyfriend?" I deadpanned, and they both snorted. It was nice to talk about Draco as just my boyfriend, just a regular guy. With Seamus and Dean I could do just that.
It was true, though. Most of my so-called revision time had been spent sneaking off with Draco under the pretence of 'studying,' which usually turned into Legilimency practice or just me trying to convince him to get out of his own head. Not exactly the best way to prepare for an exam that required actual knowledge.
We entered the Great Hall, where rows upon rows of desks had been lined up, the enchanted ceiling mirroring a cloudless sky above. Professor Tofty and the other examiners were already waiting at the front, clipboards in hand, scanning the room like vultures picking their next meal. And then there sat her. Her usual pink outfit. 'Headmasters' didn't usually care for observing the OWLs, but with her, she wanted control over everything.
"This is it," Seamus muttered. "The moment we either shine or fail spectacularly."
"Oh, you'll be fine," Dean said, but his voice lacked its usual confidence. Even he wasn't completely sure about that.
I dropped into my seat, my quill feeling heavier than usual as I adjusted the parchment in front of me. The examiners walked down the rows, handing out the scrolls of questions. My stomach twisted as I unrolled mine.
