I drifted off to sleep, unaware of the time, as Victoria's gentle strokes on my hair lulled me into a peaceful slumber. The sudden loud bang shattered the calm, jolting me awake. Victoria sat up too, her eyes scanning the room to check on Olivia, who remained fast asleep, oblivious to the commotion.
I turned to Victoria, and our eyes met, both of us equally startled. "Hey, you wait here, okay?" Victoria whispered, her voice soft and reassuring. "I'll just go take a look. Don't move from here until I tell you to. I'll be right back."
Just as Victoria got up, Mr. Laurier walked into the room, his apologetic smile directed at us. "Hey, honey, I'm back. Sorry about that bang; my keys fell." His gaze shifted to me and Victoria, and I sensed a hint of surprise.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Catherine. I guess that woke you up too," Mr. Laurier said, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiled.
I glanced at the clock and winced at the early hour: 5:17. Mr. Laurier turned to Victoria, exchanging a look I couldn't quite decipher. "Umm, I'll just go take a shower," he said, his voice a little awkward, before heading upstairs.
"Umm, you should sleep. It's still really early," Victoria said, getting up from the couch and grabbing her phone from the coffee table. She glanced at me one last time, her eyes soft with concern, before heading upstairs.
When she left, I laid down on the couch, trying to drift off to sleep. But my mind was wide awake, and I couldn't shake off the feeling of restlessness. I tried to sleep, checking the time every few minutes - 5:10, 5:15, 5:20 - but my body refused to cooperate.
As I got up, thinking that maybe I should join Olivia on the mattress, I grabbed my blanket, and memories of my moments shared with Victoria flooded my mind. I walked over to the mattress, trying to ignore the sound of soft moaning that seemed to be coming from upstairs.
But as I got closer to the mattress, the moaning grew louder, and I couldn't help but hear Victoria's voice. "Fuck, faster..." she whispered, her words sending a pang of jealousy through my chest.
I tried to ignore what I had just heard, telling myself I was just imagining things. But the sound of Victoria's voice, husky with desire, lingered in my mind, making me feel like an outsider.
I laid down beside Olivia, trying to calm my racing thoughts. But Victoria's voice still echoed in my head, and I could hear the sound of footsteps and rustling clothes coming from upstairs. Oh god, why am I even here or awake? I thought to myself, feeling like I was intruding on a private moment.
As I lay there, trying to block out the sounds, I eventually fell asleep, but not before feeling a pang of jealousy that lingered long after I drifted off.

As the sun peeked through the curtain, casting a warm glow over the room, I stirred awake to the sound of videos playing beside me. Suddenly, Olivia's voice pierced the air, "Booo!" I jolted awake, my heart racing, and let out a loud "AHHH!" before Olivia's hand clamped over my mouth.
"Shh, mom and dad are asleep," she whispered, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "I guess they had a long night." She winked at me, and I felt my face heat up.
"Eww, Olivia, why would you say that?" I asked, trying to play it cool despite my embarrassment. Olivia just grinned, clearly enjoying my reaction.
"Because, don't act like you didn't hear them doing the deed yesterday," she teased, her voice barely above a whisper. I rolled my eyes, trying to ignore her provocative comment.
Instead, I glanced at the time on my phone - 10:15. I turned back to Olivia, who was now engrossed in watching TikTok videos. I couldn't resist joining her, and soon we were both giggling and scrolling through our feeds.
