Deepa sat by the serene pond, her feet dangling in the cool water. She stared out at the ripples, lost in thought. The engagement ceremony had been a whirlwind of emotions, and she was still recovering.
The strange sensations she felt earlier once again reminded her that she still has the problems she had in her childhood.
"When will I get to know why this is happening, Mahadev (Lord Shiva)?" She complained as she threw a pebble on to the pond.
As she sat there, she heard the sound of foot steps approaching.
Before her the sun was about to set in the horizon. Who will be here now? At this hour?
She turned and she immediately retrieved her gaze when she saw who was coming.
Anil Sir? Why is he here?
In the next instant, she felt she was stupid. It's his tharavadu. Why can't he be here?
What should I say? Good morning?
She nervously twisted and turned the anchol of her saari.
"Mind if I join you?" He asked, his voice low and gaze fixed on the pond. Obviously saw how nervous she is.
Deepa shook her head, and Anil sat down beside her, keeping a respectful distance between them.
Deepa peeked at Anil who focused his eyes on the crimson horizon, the warm sunshine fell on his face and he looked exactly the same as twelve years ago.
Except that.... His head is 85% white....
They sat in silence for a moment, watching the setting sun together.
Then, Anil spoke up.
"Deepa, I am sorry for-- earlier. I knew it might have scared you a lot. I am sorry again." Anil found it difficult to get words.
He is repeatedly saying sorry when it's not even his fault.
Deepa suddenly felt she was over concerning.
After that incident, she has been purposefully avoiding Anil Sir. Whenever he comes across her, she will run away from there....
What happened previously was just an accident. That did disturbed her, but it is not a grave sin that is enough to avoid Anil sir like this.
The uncertainty in her heart really blinded her mind.
She is Deepa Lakshmi, who doesn't tremble while cutting open a live human body.
Then why is she behaving like this?
Running away from problems is not my thing. Face it, girl!
She whispered to herself and raised her gaze to look at him. With a hint of smile, she said, "No need to apologise, Sir. It wasn't your fault. It was a honest mistake. Just forget it as it never happened, please."
Anil locked his eyes in her to make sure that she was okay. Her eyes were clear and cheerful, shining brightly.
Just like the twinkling stars...
They sat in a comfortable silence for a moment, enjoying their surroundings after the messy emotions in them were wiped away.
"So, how's life been treating you?" He asked.
"Life's been good. Busy with work and family." Suddenly as she remembered something and turned to him with a proud smile. "By the way, now you can officially call me 'Dr. Deepa', Sir"
Anil paused and then smiled as he recalled a sixteen year old little girl who told him that, he can call her officially a doctor, if they were to meet again after ten years.
"That's great. As your teacher, I am proud- Congratulations, Dr. Deepa."
Deepa was unable to conceal her happy smile when she heard him.
"I should be the one to congratulate, sir. The great business legend Anil Ramachandran Menon deserves more praise for his hardwork!"
Anil was surprised, then laughed. For the first time, he felt his time and hard work in Menon groups was worth it.
If Hiran was here, he would be scared to death if he saw this. His boss was always cold faced whenever someone praised him for this. Because, to keep the Menon groups he sacrificed his dream.
One time he even broke a premium glass table, when he felt suffocated in the office. That was the time Anil got an invitation to join a space mission. But because of the Menon groups situation back then, he couldn't move to anywhere. So he rejected it.
That was a very important and most anticipated dream he had.
Later, when the company became stable, he was already over forty and no longer had the will to go back.
Today he has the capability to start his own space research centre. But he doesn't have the desire to do it.
That dream was buried under everything long ago. He couldn't take it out alone and no one tried to help him.
