As they conversed, the sky transformed into a deep shade of indigo, with the sun dipping below the horizon. The air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers, and the chirping of birds provided a soothing background melody.

"I'm so glad we had this chance to talk," Anil said, his voice sincere.

Deepa smiled, her eyes sparkling with delight. "Me too."

Just then, a loud clap of thunder echoed through the sky, making them both jump. The air was electric, and the sky was painted with hues of crimson and gold. Suddenly, dark clouds gathered, and a torrent of rain came pouring down. The rain got heavy within moments, soaking them immediately.

"We should head back," Anil suggested, stood up and quickly ran upwards. When Deepa looked up, he has already climbed up all the 24 steps.

"....." His stamina and strength is ageing backwards?

She was speechless.

As Deepa tried to stand, her feet slipped on the wet step, and she fell back into the pond with a splash. At the same time, a loud thunder echoed, the splash sound was blended with it....

"Sir!!!" she cried out, but her voice was drowned out by the thunder.

The pond was so deep. Only a small part near the steps were less deeper. But in reality, it was almost as deep as a well.. That's why no one use this pond now...

As Deepa fell into the pond, the water closed over her head and she sank soon.  Her body froze, paralyzed by fear.

She didn't struggle or try to swim. She simply sank, the water pressure building in her ears. The pond was incredibly deep, and she felt like she was being pulled down into an abyss.

There was only darkness around her.

And her heart was filled with terrifying fear.

The fear was suffocating, crushing her chest.

She couldn't breathe, couldn't think.

All she could do was sink, helpless and trapped.

No!!!!

Deepa felt someone screaming inside her.

Just as all hope seemed lost, Deepa felt a hand grasp her arm, holding her steady. Anil's silhouette cut through the chaos, calm and reassuring.

I have got you. Hold on to me.

Deepa seems to have heard his inner voice.

Deepa's fingers closed around his arm, and she felt a surge of relief.

She was no longer alone, no longer trapped.

With Anil's help, she slowly began to rise towards the surface, the water pressure easing in her ears.

As they broke the surface, Anil's hands held Deepa's waist, keeping her afloat. Deepa's eyes were wide with terror, and she struggled to catch her breath. Her chest heaved, and her body trembled violently.

Anil immediately knew that, it wasn't a normal reaction.

"Deepa, hey, can you hear me?" Anil asked, his voice laced with desperation. "Deepa, look at me!"

But Deepa didn't respond. Her eyes glazed over, and her body went limp.

His grip on her waist tightened, and he tapped her cheeks gently, his face etched with worry.

"Deepa, no! Don't pass out! Stay with me!" he urged, his voice cracking with fear.

Slowly, Deepa's eyes fluttered open, and she looked up at Anil's anguished face. Her voice was barely audible as she whispered, "Thank you..."

Anil's face contorted with relief and concern as he wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. Deepa's head drooped, and she rested her forehead on his chest. Anil's hands cradled her head, and he slowly stroked her hair, trying to calm her down.

"It's okay, Deepa. You're safe now. I've got you. Just breathe," he whispered softly, his voice trembling with emotion.

As they floated there, the rain pouring down around them, Anil's heart was filled with concern for Deepa's well-being. He knew she wasn't just shaken by the near-drowning experience – there was something more, something deeper that was haunting her.

He remembered the day she was trapped in the classroom 12 years ago...

A frown appeared on his face.
