Cassie was not particularly interested in spending a night in the famous murder house. Her best friend Sarah wanted her to go with her, so she agreed to go. She feared the potential consequences of what might happen if she was caught, even if no one cared that people trespassed on the house frequently.
When the Harmon family died, the ghost rumors increased in popularity again. She had never believed them, but the thought of entering the house was still unsettling.
Plus, in addition to her company of Sarah, she knew a few other kids from school were going as well. She trusted Sarah, but not the others. She comfortable in small groups of people, due to sheer social awkwardness. Fear and social awkwardness don't mix will, and she was anxious because she knew people would be judging everyone's reactions.
They were scheduled to enter the house on the 23rd of October. "It makes the mood scarier that way," Sarah had told her. Scarier my ass, Cassie had thought. Ghosts weren't real, as she kept reminding herself. Ghosts are not real.
