Aastha's Memory Returns: The Night of Realization
Aastha sat on the bed, arms crossed, as she stared at Ishaan, who was still standing near the couch, avoiding her gaze. She had told him at least five times to sleep on the bed, but every time, he came up with a new excuse.
“Ishaan,” she sighed, “just sleep on the bed. It’s big enough for both of us.”
“I....I’m fine here,” he muttered, adjusting the cushion on the couch as if it were the most comfortable thing in the world.
“You have back pain,” she reminded him, raising an eyebrow.
“It’s gotten better.”
“You’ve been sleeping on that couch for so long. It’s not fair.”
“It’s completely fair.”
Aastha rolled her eyes. “Are you scared of me?”
Ishaan nearly choked. “What? No!”
“Then?”
He hesitated, rubbing the back of his neck. “It’s just… not right.”
Aastha narrowed her eyes. “Not right? How?”
He opened his mouth to say something but then closed it, clearly struggling for words. “I just… I move a lot in my sleep. You won’t be comfortable.”
She scoffed. “I’ll manage.”
“Also, uh… I snore.”
Aastha folded her arms. “Liar.”
Ishaan groaned. “Aastha, just let it be, okay?”
She sighed dramatically. “Fine. Sleep wherever you want.”
Feeling a little annoyed at his stubbornness, Aastha got up to get some water. As she walked out of the room, she muttered, “I don’t get this man.”
*The Fall That Changed Everything*
As Aastha reached the staircase, she didn’t notice the small rug lying at the edge. Her foot caught on it, and before she could react, she lost her balance. A gasp escaped her lips as she tumbled down, her body crashing against the steps. A sharp pain shot through her head, and then darkness.
“Ishaan!!” Shikha’s panicked voice echoed through the house.
Within seconds, Ishaan sprinted out of the room, his heart hammering in his chest. His eyes widened when he saw Aastha lying unconscious at the bottom of the stairs.
“Aastha!” he shouted, rushing down.
He dropped to his knees, gently lifting her into his arms. His hands trembled as he cupped her face. “Aastha, wake up! Can you hear me?”
Shikha came running, gasping at the sight. “Oh my God! What happened?”
“She fell,” Ishaan said, his voice barely above a whisper. “I... I don’t know if she’s hurt badly.”
“We need to take her to the hospital,” Shikha said urgently.
“No,” Ishaan shook his head. “I’ll check her first.”
Carefully, he carried her to the couch, placing her down gently. His fingers brushed against her forehead, checking for any signs of injury. His heartbeat was erratic as he watched her face, hoping, praying she would wake up soon.
“Come on, Aastha,” he murmured, brushing a few strands of hair from her face. “Open your eyes.”
After what felt like an eternity, Aastha’s eyelids fluttered. A soft groan left her lips as she stirred.
Ishaan leaned closer. “Aastha?”
Her eyes finally opened, and for a brief moment, she was lost in the warmth of his gaze. But then—
Memories rushed back like a tidal wave.
Her school days. Watching Ishaan from afar, admiring him in secret.
The day he left school.
The devastating loss of her parents.
Living alone in a tiny, rented room, struggling to survive.
The accident that had brought her here.
And now… living in Ishaan’s house, pretending to be his wife.
Her breath hitched, but she quickly masked her reaction.
“Aastha, are you okay?” Ishaan asked, his voice filled with concern.
She looked up at him, seeing the genuine worry etched on his face. Her heart swelled.
He cared.
Not because she was his ‘wife.’ Not because of some obligation.
But because he truly, deeply cared.
“I..I’m fine,” she whispered, blinking rapidly to stop the tears from forming.
Shikha let out a relieved sigh. “You scared us, Aastha!”
Aastha managed a small smile. “Sorry.”
Ishaan exhaled slowly, rubbing his face. “You’re not allowed to scare me like that.”
She felt a strange warmth spread through her chest at his words.
Shikha sat beside her. “Are you sure you’re okay? Should we take you to the hospital?”
“No, no, I’m fine. Just a little dizzy,” Aastha said quickly.
Ishaan ran a hand through his hair, clearly unconvinced. “You should rest.”
"I will give you some pills to get relief from pain"!!
That was wooden stairs so you are not badly hurt.
Ishaan tries her to relief*
Aastha nodded, but deep inside, her heart raced.
She remembered everything now.
And she didn’t want anyone to know.
........
Later that night, as she lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, her mind was in turmoil.
She knew the truth now.
She wasn’t Ishaan’s wife. She was just his old classmate, someone who had loved him in silence years ago. And yet, fate had brought her here, to him.
For the first time in years, she wasn’t alone. She had a home, a family—Shikha, Preet, and most of all, Ishaan.
And now… she didn’t want to leave.
If she told them the truth—that she remembered everything—they might send her away.
She wasn’t ready for that.
A soft smile touched her lips. Maybe just a little longer…
