Ishaan’s Realization: The Weight of Love and Truth
Ishaan sat in his room, running a hand through his already disheveled hair. His mind was in chaos, a storm of emotions raging within him. Ever since Aastha had fallen down the stairs and lost consciousness, something inside him had shifted. The sheer terror he had felt at the sight of her lying there, lifeless, had made him realize something undeniable.
He couldn’t lose her.
Not now.
Not ever.
He had convinced himself all this time that he was merely looking after her, that his protectiveness came from responsibility. But tonight, the truth had slapped him in the face with such force that he couldn’t ignore it anymore.
He was in love with Aastha.
Every smile she gave him, every little habit of hers, the way she challenged him, the way she made this house feel like a home—it had all become a part of him. He craved her presence in ways he never thought possible.
But with this realization came a terrible truth.
If he confessed his love, wouldn’t he also have to tell her the truth?
Wouldn’t he have to admit that she wasn’t really his wife, that they had all lied to her?
His heart clenched at the thought. If she knew the truth, would she hate him? Would she leave?
That was something he wasn’t ready for.
Ishaan stood by the window, staring out at the city lights. His chest felt heavy, weighed down by the battle between his heart and his conscience. He wanted to tell her how much she meant to him, but the risk was too high.
The door creaked open slightly, and Aastha peeked in. “Hey, you okay?”
Ishaan turned quickly, plastering on a small smile. “Yeah. Just… thinking.”
She tilted her head, stepping into the room. “Thinking? That’s new.”
He chuckled softly, trying to mask the turmoil within him. “Very funny.”
She walked up to him, her expression turning gentle. “Is this about earlier? When I fell?”
His heart skipped a beat. “Of course it is! Do you have any idea how scared I was?”
She bit her lip. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to—”
“Don’t say sorry,” he cut her off, his voice softer now. “Just… be careful. Please.”
Aastha smiled at his concern, her eyes holding an emotion he couldn’t quite decipher. “I will.”
Silence stretched between them, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. It was filled with unspoken words, emotions that neither of them dared to express.
Ishaan wanted to pull her into his arms, to tell her everything—how she had become his entire world. But he stayed still, his hands clenched into fists at his sides.
Because if he told her the truth, she might leave.
And that was a risk he couldn’t take.
*Moments that made him fall*
The days that followed only solidified what Ishaan already knew.
Every little thing Aastha did made him fall deeper.
The way she hummed while cooking, her terrible habit of leaving the cap off the toothpaste, the way she always managed to strain her hairs, the way she layed on his shoulders, everything about her was so effortlessly perfect in his eyes.
One evening, they were sitting on the balcony, watching the sunset. Aastha leaned against the railing, the orange glow casting a halo around her.
“You know,” she said suddenly, “I never thought I’d have this kind of life.”
Ishaan turned to her. “What do you mean?”
She gave him a small smile. “I mean… a home. A family, in a way. I’ve been alone for so long, Ishaan. But now, I have you, Shikha, it feels nice.”
His chest tightened at her words, as he didn't noticed that she tells she is alone for so long... Means she remembers.
You’re not alone, Aastha. You never will be.
But he couldn’t say it out loud.
As the sun sets,
Ishaan sat in the living room, staring at his phone. His fingers hovered over Preet’s contact before he finally pressed call.
Preet picked up almost immediately. “Ishaan? What’s up?”
“I need to talk,” Ishaan said, his voice heavier than usual.
“Sounds serious. What’s wrong?”
Ishaan hesitated before sighing. “It’s Aastha.”
There was a pause, then a knowing hum from Preet. “Ah. Finally admitting it, huh?”
Ishaan let out a bitter chuckle. “You knew?”
“Of course, I knew! I’ve seen the way you look at her.”
Ishaan rubbed his temples. “I love her, Preet.”
There. He said it.
The words felt right. They felt real.
“But I can’t tell her,” he continued.
Preet sighed. “Because of the lie?”
“Yeah,” Ishaan admitted. “If I tell her I love her, I’ll have to tell her everything. And if she finds out… she might leave.”
Preet was silent for a moment. Then he said, “But don’t you think she deserves the truth?”
Ishaan clenched his jaw. “I know she does. But I...I can’t lose her, Preet.”
Preet’s voice softened. “You’re already too deep, Ishaan.”
Ishaan swallowed the lump in his throat. “I know.”
The Night That Changed Everything
That night, as Ishaan lay on the couch, he stared at the ceiling, his mind a mess of emotions.
Aastha deserved the truth. He knew that. But selfishly, he wanted to hold onto this illusion just a little longer.
Because now, losing her wasn’t an option.
He turned his head slightly, watching her as she slept on the bed. Her face was peaceful, a small smile playing on her lips even in sleep.
What are you dreaming about, Aastha?
Would she still smile like that if she knew the truth?
His heart clenched at the thought.
As he drifted off, one thought echoed in his mind.
I love her. And I can’t let her go.
