"Erin, did you know that William was adopted?" I asked.
Erin's eyes went wide, and she shook her head, her long blonde hair tumbling around her shoulders. "No. Are you serious?"
"I just learned that today after talking with Jimmie. Apparently William let it slip to Chad not long after Chad became his crew chief." I replied, shaking my head in disbelief. The long buried secrets were now unearthing themselves in rapid fire.
"I swear Mia...I had no idea. How can you spend four years with someone and keep that to yourself?" Erin shook her head again.
"Try a lifetime of secrets." I muttered under my breath.
"We need to do something Mia. He can't get away with this. He needs to be exposed. People need to know he's not the nice guy everyone thinks he is." Erin spat out the words.
"I know we do. I need to tell Jimmie." I dug into my empty pocket, cursing under my breath. "Dammit I need to get a new phone. It's been a curse and a blessing. I don't suppose you have Jimmie's number?"
"No, but Ryan and Chase do." Erin said.
"I understand if you don't want to get involved Erin. I can leave your name out when I talk to Jimmie, but he really needs to know who leaked the journal." I explained, wanting to protect my friend.
"I don't care if he knows. Tell him everything. Play him the message. I'm already involved. I've got your back Mia." God it was so good to have my friend back.
Erin and I went downstairs and into the main house to tell Ryan and Chase about the message, but to our surprise, the house was empty except for Sturgill taking a snooze on the couch. It was then that I spotted the note on the coffee table with Ryan's chicken scratch writing.
Chase and I went to pick up your car from HMS. Be back soon. Love you.
I had completely forgotten about my car being left at the office. I hoped there was no damage done to it. At this point I halfway expected Jeff and William to do something that petty.
Using Erin's phone, I called Ryan, frankly because I was anxious to tell him and Chase and ready for him to get back here so that I could call Jimmie.
"Thanks for getting my car. I didn't even think about it." I said, after he answered.
"No problem. Jeff sent a text to Chase telling him 'I know you know where Mia is so I need you to tell her to come and get her car from the executive parking lot before I have it towed, considering she is no longer employed here.' Fucking douche bag. Anyway, I found your keys in your bag. Figured we wouldn't be long. I promise I didn't snoop in there. We'll be back in a few minutes." He replied.
Fucking Jeff. What a pathetic waste of air.
"Is my car okay?" I asked anxiously, thinking about my beautiful and very expensive Range Rover.
"Yep. No visible damage and runs like a dream. I just turned down the street. See ya in a few." He replied.
I paced anxiously for the next few moments until Erin told me to chill because I was making her anxious. It wasn't long before I heard the garage door open. I looked out the window and saw Chase's Tahoe pull up in the driveway.
I practically tackled Ryan as he and Chase walked through the door.
"It was William and Jeff who leaked the journal." I blurted out.
Erin and I both began talking over each other trying to get the story about the voicemail out, until Ryan told both of us to breathe. We finally all sat down and Erin played the message for the guys.
