Dani sleeps peacefully in her room at the Barton house.
Natasha shakes her awake. "Wake up, idiot."
Dani finally wakes up and checks the clock.
1:00 am
"It's too early." The girl complains.
"You've woken up for training at this hour," Natasha says. "Besides it's about Fury."
Dani's eyes widen and she gets out of bed quickly. "What happened?" The redhead asks seriously, a slight Russian accent returning to her voice.
"Fury's been shot," Natasha says and Dani's mouth drops. "He's in the hospital. We need to go now."
Dani nods. "Let me call Acacia first."
It takes Dani ten tries for Acacia to actually wake up.
"Why did you wake me up?" Acacia asks in a grouchy tone.
"Fury's in the hospital." Is all Dani needs to say for Acacia to hang up and get out of bed.

Natasha and Dani get out of the car to meet up with Acacia.

Dani blinks back the tears stinging her eyes. This is the man that gave her a chance when no one else would. One of the only men she actually trusted and her father figure to her. If not she would've probably been stuck in the Red Room for a little longer and who knows, maybe even blown up in the explosion that Clint and Natasha initiated so the Red Room could be taken down.
"Is he gonna make it?" Natasha asks.
"I don't know." Steve says.
"Tell me about the shooter." Dani says.
"He's fast and strong," Steve says. "Had a metal arm."
Natasha and Dani share a look and Dani puts a hand on Natasha's shoulder. This is the man Natasha loved, as well as probably the first man Dani fully ever trusted.
"Ballistics?" Acacia asks. She's never actually met the Winter Soldier, but has heard many stories about him.

"Three slugs, no rifling. Completely untraceable." Hill says.
"Soviet-made." Natasha states.
"Yeah." Hill says.
"He's in V-tach." A male nurse announces.
"Crash cart coming in." A female nurse says.
"Nurse, help me with the drape." The doctor says.
"BP is dropping."
"Defibrillator!" The doctor holds out his hand.
"I want you to charge him at one hundred."
"Don't do this to me, Nick." Dani whispers.
"Stand back! Three, two, one. Clear! Pulse?"
"No pulse."
"No pulse."
"Okay. 200, please. Stand back! Three, two, one. Clear!"
"Give me epinephrine! Pulse?"
"Negative."
"Don't do this to me, Nick. Don't do this to me." Dani mutters, feeling tears stinging the tears stinging her cheeks. Acacia hugs Dani quietly. Acacia's never really seen Dani cry before, so this is probably the first time. Fury's death didn't really affect the burnette, because she only became a SHIELD agent after the Battle of New York which inspired her to want to make a difference in the world as well. Dani talked to Fury about it, who let her join.
"What's the time?"
"1:03, Doctor."
"Time of death, 1:03 a.m."
Dani cries quietly a hand on her mouth. Acacia still clings onto Dani and Natasha rubs Dani shoulder. Dani notices Natasha has tears in her eyes as well.

Acacia left saying that she needed sleep. Natasha and Dani cry quietly.
"I need to take him." Hill says.
"Natasha, Daniella." Steve says.
The girls don't answer and Dani touches Fury's head before leaving with her sister.
"Natasha! Daniella!" Steve repeats louder.
"Why was Fury in your apartment?" Dani asks.
"I don't know." Steve says.
"Cap, they want you back at SHIELD." Rumlow says.
"Yeah, give me a second." Steve says.
"They want you now." Rumlow insists.
"Okay." Steve turns to Dani and Natasha.
"You're a terrible liar." Natasha says and the sisters walk off.

Dani and Natasha walk behind Steve. Dani dramatically blows a bubble and pops it with the bubble gum from the vending machine. The two had find the drive Steve hid in a bubble gum packet. Steve grabs the two girls' arms and pins to a wall.
"Where is it?" Steve demands.
"Safe." Dani says.
"Do better!" Steve says.
"Where did you get it?" Natasha questions.
"Why would I tell you?" Steve says in question.
"Fury gave it to you. Why?" Dani asks.
"What's on it?" Steve questions.
"We don't know." Natasha states.
"Stop lying!" Steve demands.
"We only act like we know everything." Dani states.
"I bet you knew Fury hired the pirates, didn't you?" Steve asks.
"Well, it makes sense. The ship was dirty, Fury needed a way in, so do you." Dani states.
"I'm not gonna ask you again." Steve says.
"I know who killed Fury. Most of the intelligence community doesn't believe he exists, the ones who do call him the Winter Soldier. He's credited with over two dozen assassinations in the last fifty years." Natasha says, thinking about her James.
"So he's a ghost story." Steve says.
"Five years ago Natasha and I were escorting a nuclear engineer out of Iran, somebody shot out our tires near Odessa. We lost control, went straight over a cliff, I pulled us out, but the Winter Soldier was there. I was covering our engineer, so he shot him straight through me." Dani says hiding a lot of the story. Natasha didn't want to tell Steve everything, so she wouldn't either.
Dani pulls up her shirt to reveal the scar on her abdomen. "Soviet slug, no rifling. Bye-bye bikinis." She says playfully with a smirk.
"Yeah, I bet you look terrible in them now." Steve says.
"Going after him is a dead end. We know, we've tried." Natasha says.
"Like you said, he's a ghost story." Dani says, crossing has arms.
Natasha gives Steve the drive.
"Well, let's find out what the ghost wants." Steve says.
