Men, both great and terrible, have experienced failure, Me? I'm both great and terrible. I have learned that history treats me like royalty. Yet my life has been a failure in every way. I have inspired many great and terrible people, but I don't understand how it all relates to me
Here I am, with a priest, arguing about human religion and morality. Things that a King should aspire to be interested in, or at least take advantage of, but I could not be any less interested.
Religion is boring to me. The idea that this heavenly father loves me, as a father should, but I don't feel loved. This father of mine has betrayed me, led me astray as they do believe. In fact he is all good and powerful, says who? That's what I asked the priest, that's how this started.
As we went toward the other path, he started to pray once again, loud enough for me to hear every word.
I had already been sick and tired from his foolishness from the Red Moon Incident. This time however the moon didn't turn red, it hadn't for a while despite his praying.
The path continued for what felt like forever, till we encountered a church. The church was massive, at least Two stories high. The structure was reminiscent of the churches of my time. Normally Where there would be murals of God and Angels, there was no such thing, only images of indescribable creatures. They were all in a prayer position however.
The priest freaked out from seeing the church, saying things like “That's an evil church” and “That church is without a God” as if his churches are any less evil and devoid of God. He's a really foolish man. When we got to the gates, they seemed more fit for a castle than any church.
I grab what seems to be the gate knob. I hear three hits back three times, in between three spaces. This gets my curiosity and so I knock back three times. From this, it seems the door has opened. It seems there are people inside
The priest soon follows behind with his cross and bible in hand, praying over and over. I do not feel any obligation to protect him, but neither am I malicious. And so I let the coward hide behind me. It's pitch black inside, no way to see ahead.
The priest takes out what seems to be a small candle, lighting it with a match. What we find are countless creatures staring at us. What we thought was darkness was evil staring back at us. We ran out of the church with our hearts beating hard. Never had I felt such fear.
Despite them seeing us, they did not run after us. What followed out of the door was a trail of blood. I touched the blood, seeming harmless. It was scorching hot, instantly burning my finger.
At this point the priest was too fear stricken to enter the church again, I however was not. I no longer had anything to lose, only everything to gain. So I entered it once again.
The church now seemed like a normal church, at least the decor. The big elephant in the room was in fact that all the creatures were sitting down praying. The trail of blood led to what was up on the cross. It was upside down with something that seemed familiar.
“Wait, could it be.”
There was my child, the one I had lost long ago, nailed to a cross. He has grown twice the size of me.
Tears were pouring out of him.
“How could you let this happen to me father, leaving me to be used by these abominable things, YOU PATHETIC KING.”
“I..I, I'm sorry child, but this was not my doing. I am not to blame for this.
The priest walks in.
“What are you doing?, why are you talking to that Evil Demon?”
“That ‘Demon’ is in fact my child. So back off from your judgement.”
“I always knew there was darkness in you. It overshadowed you wherever you went. The rejection of God should have been a tell tale sign.”
“Be quiet priest!”
“I shan't keep my mouth closed. For I see the evil in you now.”
I ran over to my son. The judgement of the priest did not matter. I have had a stroke of luck, once again being reunited with my son. I ran over to him, having forgotten the creatures.
They all stood up at once. Speaking in unison
“That is our messiah. He is our savior, the bringer of death to our enemies. You will not let him go.”
“No child of mine is a messiah. He is simply the product of forgotten love. However! That is the last thing I will do! I will not forget him, nor leave him!”
That's when a man comes out of the woodworks.
“Dear lost souls and creatures of death. I welcome you to the cleansing of our enemies. The tool for our mission. The reason I stand before you once again. Dear followers, the messenger of your God, I Kasim, will lead you all to the end of the door.”
Dear God, I muttered.
The last man I wanted to encounter, the one that faded into urban legend, stands before me. The priest runs away screaming “The devil is inside of there!” I don't know if he was referring to me or to Kasim. In the end we are both devils of some kind, sinners that continue sinning even in the afterlife.
A giant clock on the wall hits five o'clock. All of the hideous creatures surround me and my son. Here I am, given the chance to repent for my failures, I not only thank him, but resent him for it. For if he brings failure before my door, I will bring chaos upon his order.
“Kasim The Fallen, son of the devil, how do you plead?”
“I neither plead guilty nor innocence my king, I am simply the rebellion that will topple your throne.”
“Very well, if that is your answer so shall my actions be justified.”
For if the father isn't willing to put his life down for his children, his children can't have the privilege to call him that. Every muscle of my body jumps toward my son, pulling out all of the nails off his body, blood gushing out profusely.
“Father, it hurts”
All the hideous creatures stab into my back, piercing my son as well. Yet my body won't stop, a sense of clarity washes over me. My one and only son, in both life and death, you are worth it, the only thing that's worth it.
“My child is not weak, he is no demon. He is strong.”
I fall to the ground, still the stabbing continues. My child weeps for me.
My heart sinks to the bottom of the sea.
“How can you weep for me child?”
“Father, I never knew how you felt. I thought you intentionally abandoned me. I'm glad you're my father.”
The clock hits five fifty five, as time is irrelevant here. My child is finally free, all I could ever ask for. The Gypsy Prince comes to a state of unequivocal rage. He kills all the hideous creatures, only Kasim stands now.
He grabs the pool of blood that my body has become. Resting in my child's hands, my soul Forever tired, walking into that eternal sleep. My eyes are slowly closing up.
“My child, live with freedom. Let our souls rise through time and space little one.”
My soul turns. God has abandoned me for the last time.
