I looked up at him through red, tearful eyes.
He looked surprised.
"I didn't call them."
"Oh, please!" I laugh-cried.
I turned and headed up the stairs and heard him follow me.
I started to change her diaper and gave her a baby toy to distract herself with.
"Do you really expect me to believe you didn't call them?"
"I only found out today."
"Then who did?" I threw the dirty diaper away, picked her up and went to the bathroom to wash my hands.
"I did some digging on that." DG stood just outside the door and I dried my hands.
"Oh, yeah? What did you find?" I muttered and walked pasts him with Birdie.
"Your manager."
I paused and Birdie cried as I accidentally squeezed her.
I began bouncing her gently.
"He... why?"
"I suppose it's to try and control you."
I gulped and sat on the rocking chair.
"There's an easy way to fix this. A way that will get CPS off your back and make your manager happy."
I looked up at DG with hopeful eyes.
"How?!"
"We get married."
I stared at him.
Is he fucking around?
"We tell everyone you beating me was to get everybody's attention on us. We tell everybody that I'm... what's her name again?"
"Birdie."
"That I'm Birdie's dad and that we're getting married."
I thought for a second.
Why is he helping me?
"What do you get out of this?" I asked quietly.
"Nothing." He said and I looked at him before Birdie gripped my shirt, sniffing for milk.
I pulled a blanket over her and she started to nurse.
I was thinking.
I still resent him, but he's giving me a way to solve my biggest problems.
"What do I need to do?" I asked quietly.
"I'll go live. Just take a shower so you don't look so... upset. Then show up with Birdie. You don't have to show her face if you don't want to. Or put her down for a nap and come join me in the live."
I nodded slowly.
"Okay."
I took Bird into the bathroom with me, put her in a little hammock swing and took a shower.
"Are you ready?" I asked Bird and she yawned.
I walked down the stares, shaking and heard DG's voice.
"Am I at my house? No. I'm at my fiance's house."
I passed the room where DG was and I checked his live.
Everyone was going crazy, asking who his fiancée was and asking who just passed by the door.
Someone noticed I joined and asked what I was doing there. The chat was a mix of people attacking me and people defending me.
"Hey, leave her alone." DG looked annoyed.
"DG, want water?" I called after taking a deep breath.
"Sure, babe."
I poured out some water and carried Birdie and the cup over to the couch.
I sat next to DG who thanked me for the water and kissed my forehead.
I giggled and leaned into him.
Do this for Birdie...
I read the comments.
"Yes, I'm DG's fiancée." I laughed at the comments.
DG slipped a ring on my finger and I showed it to the camera.
"The beating? Oh, that was staged. We just wanted to make the public think we were no longer on good terms." DG said with a smile.
"AHHHH!" Birdie began to cry at the lack of attention she was receiving.
"Jesus!" I began trying to soothe. "You can't let mommy and daddy have a moment, can you?"
She cried and reached out for DG.
We were both surprised but quickly hid it.
"She never wants me." DG laughed and took his daughter into his arms.
