In the beginning of the year they were told being in Drumline was like being in a family. The freshmen didn't really believe this until it was too late.

The sophomores could believe it, but it took them longer. They would've been turned right away if there was a blood moon, but the alpha did not want to take risks at the time.

Most of the underclassmen did not have air conditioning in their rooms. They did not hide under the covers, and now they regret it.

After a long day of practicing and standing, sleeping didn't seem like as much of a chore it would be without ac. Shoe's last thoughts were of triplets and stick heights before falling asleep. When she woke up, she was lying, restrained, with her friends around her. Liz was still asleep, along with Anshuman and Oliver.
Amherst looked over into Shoe's panicked green eyes and noticed she couldn't help her anymore than she could help herself.

Emma had woken up first and had already watched each and every one of the older teens slice their hands open and squeeze the blood onto the faces of their younger counterparts. They muttered what sounded like nonsense under their breaths but none of the Underclassmen could understand what it meant. Shoe thought she heard Jenna say "Make more moo moo moms" but it didn't make any sense. She told herself it wasn't English.

Joe could barely utter the word "What?" as the restraints were laid tight across his chest

The silence was heavy on their shoulders, and the smell of their fear struck adrenaline into the hearts of the people's waiting in the darkness of the room.

The underclassmen's only desire was simply escape. However before any plan could be formulated, the newly indoctrinated underclassmen's minds clouded over and sleep took them over once more.
