(From Alyssa)
I opened my eyes in a beautiful field, full of silver flowers that seemed to glow with the light of the moon. Yes, I remembered this place very well. It is where I was left to die.
When I was a young girl, I didn't understand what love was. I was born in a very influential and powerful family, second only to the royal family. I can't say I was ever mistreated or ignored, all the contrary, I was very spoiled. Everything I desired was given to me. The reason behind this was not out of love, like how Rosanne spoils her daughter. It was merely for their own benefit and self interest; my parents, the rest of the elders of the family, and everyone with power just wanted to have me on their side. I was, after all, the first one of my clan in several generations to have what they called the true heart of a dragon. Few among them could even use Will magic, none closer to my abilities. I was called a prodigy, a genius that was born only once every century.
As such, I became a candidate to become the next empress. Those around me told me that a marriage to the prince and the title of empress were already mine, no one could come even close to me. I had no desire for the boy nor the position, but since it was given to me, it belonged to me. I wasn't going to let anyone take what was mine. I used my influence and power against the other candidates and anyone opposing me, until even the king and queen were unable to stand against me. The only one who foolishly tried to counter me was the chancellor. I never went all out against him because of his old age.
I should have squashed him the moment I met him.
He brought a young girl that he claimed to have found in the countryside, to serve as the prince attendant. I had forbidden any woman who I hadn't approved to come close to him, so this act of disrespect of course made me furious. I wasn't a savage though, I sent others to do the dirty work for me. She was showered with dirty water, got her stuff misplaced, got assigned the most arduous and humiliating tasks, and was harassed by the rest of the attendants that were under my control. But nothing broke her. She continued doing what was asked without ever showing a hint of discomfort. In fact, she barely showed any expression, I only saw her smiling when she was with the prince, and even then, it looked like she was just mimicking a smile, a facade designed to gain sympathy.
I should have squashed her as well.
Oh, trust me, I tried once I ran out of patience. But to my and everyone else's surprise, this weak looking girl was actually pretty strong. The only person who had been able to stop my lightning before had been the young princess from a foreign nation I had met up in a ceremony, Erzebeth. But I was way weaker back then, I was sure I could have defeated her at that moment. So when this girl was able to catch my lightning with her bare hands, I was a little bit more than surprised. She was glowing with golden light. The chancellor came out of his hiding spot to provoke me.
"See this, child of thunder! This is the power of a saintess! Give up on the prince and the throne and walk away in shame!"
His words made me furious. I couldn't accept losing what belonged to me. I jumped towards that insolent man, ready to end his life, but the so-called saintess blocked my claws, using the very same lightning she had caught as a weapon. No matter what I did, she blocked or parried it away. The castle around us was being destroyed, walls were being blown away, and anything flammable caught on fire. And yet, she never showed any emotion.
A saintess is truly a terrifying being...
"Finish her off already!" the chancellor yelled.
It was only then that that girl moved on the offensive, and in a swift movement that I was barely able to follow, she used the lightning to pierce me through my chest. She missed my heart by mere millimeters. Not that it mattered, because I am sure the electricity that ran through my body in that instant stopped it anyways.
