The bus came to a screeching halt as the driver slammed on the breaks. He seriously almost missed our stop for the fifth time in a row. I shrugged, looking over to Bri in confusion. She had been mean-mugging me all day, and I was getting pretty uncomfortable.
"Bri," I nudged, "we have to get off."
She mumbled something before quickly getting off of the bus and hastily making her way to the sidewalk.
"Bri! Wait!" I yelled, seemingly getting her attention. She turned around and folded her arms over her chest before speaking.
"What Chris? What the hell do you want?" she questioned.
"I need to tell you something."
"I already know you're dating Lexi." she huffed.
I cringed at her response. "The Lexi who's went through every guy in school? Nah. The chick just won't leave me alone," I stated simply.
"Well what is it? And why were you being all weird on the bus this morning?"
I couldn't tell her. She'd be too upset. "Nevermind."
"Bye Chris." Bri spoke, walking faster. She didn't think she could out run me now could she?
I quickly jogged up to her side and snatched her bookbag off of her shoulders. She glared at me as I ran to her house and sat on the bench near the porch.
"Sit." I ordered, patting the empty spot next to me.
"I'm not a dog." Bri mumbled before sitting all the way on the opposite end of the bench.
"Closer." I spoke softly. She scooted over one space and let out a deep sigh. "Cloooser." I said in a sing-song voice. She didn't move. Eventually I gave up and scooted all the way next to her instead.
"Don't be jealous," I shrugged. "I'on like Lexi."
"That's not what she said."
I broke the silence with a deep breath. "I'm sorry for avoiding you today Bri, I really am."
"It's cool. I'm sorry for over reacting." she shrugged.
"Let's go inside. I want some cookies." I laughed, pushing Bri through the door.

"I seriously thought I got that one right though." I spoke, attempting to bite into a cookie.
Bri laughed, snatching away my cookie. "You know you suck at math."
"Well you suck at baking cookies. See this? This shit is as hard as a rock," I chuckled. Bri gave me the evil eye as I banged the cookie against my plate.
"Well you're the one who put them in the oven for 5 minutes at 450 degrees instead of 12 minutes at 350°..."
"Well you're the one who let me do it." I glared, poking my tongue out for emphasis. Bri just looked at me without responding. "See, that's what I thought." I smirked.
"I'm so done with your childish a-"
"Nope, no talking." I interrupted.
"Chris I swea-"
"No. Shh." I replied, putting a finger up to her lips for emphasis. "Good, now help your best friend with his homework." I spoke as I placed my hand on her lower back, pulling her towards me.
"Nope." Bri replied, popping the 'p'. Instead, she flipped over to her back and reached for her mystery novel.
"What's that saying? You are what you read? You are the biggest mystery, I swear."
"No, Chris it's 'you are what you eat.' In your case, you'd be a giant bag of flaming hot cheetos." she giggled.
"Same difference."
"Uh, whatever."
"Well, it's getting late... I should go. I do have to finish packing." I spoke, mentally face-palming myself.
"Pack for what? Since when do you go on vacation?" Bri gasped jokingly.
"I'm not going on vacation, Bri. I wanted to wait to tell you this but I didn't know how." I spoke quietly.
"Is this why you've been avoiding me?"
I nodded, nervously gulping as I continued.
"I-I'm moving."
