This chapter is dedicated to simonesaidwhat, she's been nothing but kind to me and I absolutely love everything she writes. All of her works are honestly just gifts from heaven.
Anywaay, here's the chapter.
Matt Montbelliard felt right at home in the principal's office. Of course, this was due to all the embarrassing stories his new head mistress was recounting about his mother in their University days at Dartmouth. It was his first day at The Sacred Heart Charter School in Rhode Island. After his arrival late last night into his own suite, he had begun to wonder if the transfer was such a good idea in the first place. He would be starting over in junior year, which was better than starting over in senior year, but still. Also, his roommate seemed shady as hell, yet had a polaroid of him and some girl draped in pink in stuck to the fridge. He didn't even have any tragic backstory to going there, he was just one for adventure. Also, a change of scenery from the plastic world of the Upper East Side was almost a must at this point.
However, what Matt failed to realize was that Sacre Coeur (it's former name, and what it was referred to as colloquially) was just as snobby as the Upper East Side, and probably even more segregated than Mean Girls. It only catered to those of old money, so it understandably comprised of a lot of students attending by force and just didn't give a shit about much other than the latest celebrity gossip, or school gossip. These students were most likely to end up unemployed and living a lavish life simply with their inheritance money.
It wasn't that Matt couldn't do that, he just saw more to life than dinner at Nobu and shopping at Barney's.
"As funny as it is looking back on Maddie's embarrassing moments, I think you should get going to class, Matty," Headmistress, or rather Aunt, Karen said, "There's a student right outside who will show you around since you both have a free lesson first period,"
"Alright," He replied, "Thanks, for everything,"
She gave him a warm smile, before lifting her palm up as to signal him to leave her office. As he left, he saw a student waiting for him outside. She was tiny, with long brown hair with blonde tips, vaguely Italian, and looked painfully shy.
"Um, hi, are you the new student?" She said, looking over at him with big brown eyes. She looked like an innocent bunny.
Get a grip, you idiot he told himself.
"Uh, yeah, I'm Matt" He said, sticking out his hand, "What's your name?"
"My name's Gabriela," She replied, offering him a sweet smile, "So, what brings you to Sacred Heart?"
"Oh, I just wanted a change of scenery," He replied, but didn't delve deeper into the topic.
He noticed how Gabriela just nodded and didn't question it.
Now she's going to think I have some hopelessly tragic side story.
Since they weren't the only two students who had a free lesson that first period, he couldn't help but notice how oddly segregated the system was. He saw a bunch of guys and girls with science books, people in what looked to be the marching band, the cheerleaders and football players, the tumblr hipsters, the makeup gurus and many others. They all just stuck to their own cliques. It wasn't like they didn't acknowledge other groups' presences. Sure, they smiled at each other, but they acted like acquaintances. It was like you couldn't be close friends with someone from another group. There obviously was segregation at his old school, he was in the Upper East Side for Pete's sake, but this much? Nope, this was an amped up version of Mean Girls.
"Wow, you guys seem to take the clique thing seriously around here huh," He mused,
"Yeah, but we're used to it, I guess," Gabriela replied, shrugging.
