(Peter walks down the hallway of his apartment building wearing pink hello kitty pajama pants and an oversized tourist shirt.)
People cackle and Peter grumbles.
"You can grumble all you want but I know that you kept those pants." Tony says smirking.
Pepper giggles. "And you look adorable every time you wear them."
"Not you too." Peter groans.
(He knocks on his apartment door which May answers. "Hey." He whispers. May inhales deeply and storms inside.)
"Uh oh." Kamala says and whines in sympathy, "I know that look, that is the angry and disappointed face of a mother. Or aunt."
"Okay punishments are different depending where they land on the angry to disappointed scale." Kate says.
No one noticed America's silence and her frown. Silently wishing that her mother's were here to at least get upset at her.
("I've been calling you all day. You didn't answer your phone." May says, "You can't do that. Then this ferry thing happens. I've called five police stations.")
"Short sentences with no transitions between each other." Rhodey says with a wince, "Yikes."
(Peter walks to May and stands behind her. "Five. I called five of your friends.")
"On a lighter note I didn't know I had that many people that considered me a friend at that time." Peter said. Some people chuckled while others just stared at him.
"That's not really funny Queens." Steve says with a frown.
"Dark humor." Says Jen, "It's an acquired taste."
("I'm fine." Says Peter but May continues. "I called Ned's mom." "May, I'm okay. Honestly. Just relax. I'm fine." May stands and faces Peter.)
"Yeah, you shouldn't tell a worried parent to relax even if you're the kid." Scott says with a slightly scared look.
("You." May says, "Cut the bulls••t. I know you left detention. I know you left the hotel room in Washington. I know you sneak out of this house every night.")
Many people's eyes widen at that revelation.
"I'm guessing she was waiting for you to tell her on your own and was trusting that whatever you're doing isn't too bad?" Hope asks. Peter nods.
("That's not fine. Peter, you have to tell me what's going on. Just lay it out. It's just me and you.")
Peter's breath hitched at that last sentence. Unpleasant memories threatening to bubble up to the surface. Matt squeezed his hand and rubbed his thumb along his knuckles.
"It's okay." Matt whispers, "You're here with me and all of us, not there."
Peter took a few deep breaths before squeezing back. He didn't notice Tony's worried glance.
(A beat then Peter's eyes filled up with tears. "I lost the Stark Internship." "What?" "Yeah." "What happened?" "I just thought that I could work really hard and he could, he would, you know.")
"You did and do work hard." Tony's says.
"I just needed to remember to use my brains and work smarter too back then." Peter says with a smile.
"You're damn right you did." Tony says with a smile of his own and the two laugh.
"Work hard and smart. You three are paying attention to this right?" Clint asks the three young heroes.
