June 1st, 2018. — The afternoon before Interhigh begins.

Overhead, the bell rang, signifying the end of the school day. Shimizu Y/N

packed his bag, mentally running through the rest of the day as he slung it over his shoulder, grabbed his gakuran from the back of his chair, and exited the classroom. "Have a good weekend, Shimizu-kun!" He heard his teacher exclaim with a friendly wave. The younger boy bowed before sliding the door shut and heading to the library.

It's the day before the championships, and he's sure the team's excitement is high. While Shimizu couldn't attend the first hours of practice because he had a track meet, Coach Yonezu allowed him to leave after his events since it was a home game.

When he told his boyfriend days before, he was visibly upset but understood Shimizu's priorities and promised that one day, he would watch him run. Sliding the library door open, he bowed at the librarian before turning in his books, watching the time so he wouldn't be late for his first event.

If he stuck to the usual schedule, he would be sitting on the bleachers waiting for other schools to arrive and stretching for the relay, but he decided to wait until the school day was over because he was learning a new unit in two of his core classes.

Besides, the schools attending weren't ones to be worried about. Tokonami barely made it to prelims the year before, Ōgiminami didn't have a field team, and Ubugawa had three decent runners and one above-average thrower. Even then, Karasuno wouldn't have a hard time beating them.

Shimizu wasn't being conceited, he was stating the facts. Despite not being close to anyone on the team except for the relay team he runs with—even then, he knew his only "friend" on the track team was Kaede-senpai— he knew people on the team, especially first-years, looked up to him.

He picked two books from a genre he'd yet to explore and checked them out with a small smile when the librarian wished him good luck on the meet as he exited the library and made his way to the locker rooms. 'I should see if Yuu is busy. Practice hasn't started yet.' Shimizu thought as he pulled his phone from his bag to text his boyfriend.
