little blinking lights;
rising
sinking
dying out winking
you told me i could question
the ocean at my feet;
rising
sinking
swallowing everything
every deafening crash was a 'no'
and every gentle lap was a 'yes'
little blinking lights;
were dancing in the distance
and my god,
they were beautiful
but they couldn't come close
to the intensity in your deep dark eyes
and i couldn't take mine off
the contours of your perfect face
the ocean was crashing;
breaking
falling
as if the beast in it's belly was
raging
speckles at the mouth;
foaming
screaming
no
no
NO!
but i asked it if you loved me
and the tide licked my toes
as if the beat of your heart
had slayed the beast of the seas
lashing at the shore
and i heard the ocean spray
whisper a subdued 'yes'
and i saw the look in your eyes
and knew
i just knew
yes, yes you did
