'i'm sorry' tastes like rust and bile mixed together at the back of your throat. guilt drips down your esophagus, slowly, until it settles comfortably in the gut.
'it's okay' tastes like waste water and laundry detergent. he broke a heart and apologized. but 'it's okay', though your chest stings and you throw up over the words every night.
'i'm fine' tastes like rotten fruit that was once fresh; like bliss on the first bite, but you repeated it so many times, for so long, it decomposed on your tongue.
'why?' tastes like sour milk; something once sweet, now completely spoiled and leaving you choking on the after taste.
'i love you' tastes like his lips - even after an year had passed since your last kiss - and it doesn't help your tired soul. It doesn't help at all.
- (what do words taste like), s.m.
