"Come on, come on" I pleaded as I tried to start my car but it wasn't starting. "Great. What else is going to happen today." I mumbled getting out of the car

"Kendrick!" I yelled walking back into the house

"I think he's in the shower" Chance came from the kitchen

I walked to his bedroom, knocking on the bathroom door

"Bro, can you take me to my moms? I wanna see if she calmed down yet" I yelled so he could hear me over the running shower

"I'll be out in 15 minutes"

I went and sat on the porch waiting for him to come out. I don't even want to face my mom but I can't stay with Kendrick forever. I just don't understand how she could have so much hate towards her child.

"You ready?" Kendrick tapped my shoulder pulling me from my thoughts.

We both climbed into his truck. The ride to my house was quiet. The only sound that could be heard was from the radio.

Pulling into the driveway, I was shocked. The house was completely empty. No curtains or nothing.

I rushed out of the car running into the house. "Mom!" I yelled running upstairs but nothing was there. I slid down the wall as tears fell from my eyes. Kendrick walked in and instantly pulled me into a hug.

"How could she leave me like this? Her only child" my voiced cracked

"It's ok Lani. You will always have me" Kendrick rubbed my back

I didn't know what to feel. I was numb. My father died and my mother ran away from me. Am I that bad?

I finally calmed down after 15 minutes. My eyes were red and puffy. I just wanted to leave and go to sleep. I walked downstairs and out the house with Kendrick right behind me.

"Kehlani?" My old neighbor walked over

"Yes ma'am?"

"Before your mother left she gave me this" she handed me a folded piece of paper "She told me to give it to you if I saw you" she then hugged me

"Thank You Ms. Rose" I weakly smiled

I climbed into the passenger side and open the paper. It was a letter.

Kehlani,

If you're reading this then you know
by now that I am gone. I just couldn't take it anymore. You ruined my life enough and when you left the other night, I took that as my chance to leave also. I need a new start in life. I'm sorry it had to be this way but its best for both of us.

Naomi P.

I balled up the paper and threw it out of the window.

"You good?" Kendrick asked, keeping his eyes on the road

"I will be" I continued to look out the window.

"You can stay with me as long as you need to. I got you."

I smiled "Awww look at you being a big brother. Thanks tho, I really appreciate it."

We arrived back at his house. I went in and he left.

"Whats wrong?" Chance came over to me

"I just want to sleep" I walked past him
