[First I'd like to clear the timeline here. Vincent was captured the morning before it was presented at the town square. That night Scott came, and blah blah, ya'll remember what happened there. This picks up the next evening. And also, the timesline begins in the last few days of August, thus the name of the chapter.]

It was growing dark, the cold setting in. The metal bars were chilled, though the air was still a bit warm. The naga shivered, curling up tighter. His whole body trembled, from fear, guilt, and the cold. It was his third evening in the cage, locked up like some sort of animal. They had planned to ship him off to the king today, although here he lay, in the same spot, the same cage, miserable as ever.

He lifted his head as he heard something. He hoped it would be Scott again, although Scott would only come in the dead of the night. He looked up, squinting to see who or what was coming closer. He sat up, the scales on his shoulders raising defensively. He let out a weak hiss, and heard a low chuckle in response. The defensiveness was replaced with fear, he backed away from the sound of the voice. He heard the cage door open, and someone step inside. He saw a figure in the darkness, although he couldn't make out who it was. He growled, but was cut off as he felt a hand around his neck. The naga yelped, clawing at the figure who tightly gripped his neck.

"Give me one of them, that should put him down." The figure said, gesturing to another person with him. The person reached into a bag, grabbing something Vince could not see. Vince snapped his jaws at the man holding his neck, but it did no good. The man took the object from the other figure. Vince struggled to get out of his grasp, when he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his back. He screeched and squirmed, although his energy was depleting fast, and before long he was out like a light.

The man picked the unconscious child up, walking out of the cage and sighing. He trembled and sobbed in its sleep, but the medicine in the syringe he'd been pricked with did its job. It would be a long trip, deeper into the kingdom. The king wanted to see the first caught naga in person, and that's where he'd be going.

Scott sat up in bed, looking around. He ran a hand through his hair, remembering what had happened the night before. He sighed, getting out of bed and grabbing his backpack. He choose a few items from the shelf and put them inside the pack, then headed downstairs. He got to the bottom of the stairs, then quietly walked into the kitchen. He realized how early it was, the sun was barely up. It would be the perfect time to go see Vincent.

He took another canteen, and he grabbed a slice of bread to hold off his appetite until he got back home. He grabbed another piece of beef jerky for Vince, then closed the pack and headed out the door.

Scott smiled, walking into the town square. It was empty, as usual. The cage was still there, Scott sighed of relief and began to make his way to the platform. He looked inside, smiling. "Vince...you there? Its me, Scott. I'm back-...." His smile faded as he realized the cage door was open. "Vincent?!" He looked around, only to find that the naga was gone. He frantically searched the nearby areas, his thoughts running wild. Suddenly, someone grabbed him, and he felt a sharp pain in his arm before blacking out.

Scott gasped and opened his eyes, blinking. His vision was blurry, though he felt the cold stone floor, and could make out the stone walls. He managed to stand up, the world seemed to be spinning. He shook his head, blinking a few more times. He saw someone down the hall, a woman, red-ish blonde hair and blue eyes. She stood in front of what looked like a cell, and then Scott realized where he was- a dungeon.

Scott looked around once more, before turning his attention back on the woman. She wore a leather vest, thick pants, her hair tied up in a ponytail. She turned and looked at him, smiling a bit. "You're awake...come on, you must be confused. I'll explain." She held her hand out, Scott hesitated, but took her hand anyways. She let him to a certain cell, that was completely dark on the inside. Scott looked around, then looked at her. She smiled and unlocked the cell, motioning for Scott to go in. He reluctantly went in as she turned the light on. Scott gasped, seeing the familiar naga sitting in the corner. He ran over to Vince, kneeling next to him. "Vincent?! Are you okay?!" Scott frantically asked.

Vince lifted his head, smiling a bit. Scott hugged him tightly. "I'm glad you're alright..." The lady in the room smiled. "I see you two are close, just like they said. Its amazing...Anyways, I should probably explain. My name is Emily, I just work here to take care of who or what they lock up down here. We brought you here since you're the only person who can tame him." She gestured to Vincent. "He was rather a struggle...although he had a teddy bear of some sort, and that seems to calm him down." Scott smiled, petting Vince gently. The naga had already crawled into his lap, nuzzling him.

"Well...thanks for bringing me here...but you could've just asked me. You didn't have to drug me." Scott said. "Well..that wasn't my idea." She replied. Scott sighed and looked down at Vince, who was already asleep. Emily got up, opening the door. "Keep him calm for a moment...there is something I need you to help me with. Bring him in here." She walked down the hall, and into a room. Scott picked Vince up bridal style, carrying him to the room where she went. Vince gripped onto Scott's shirt, he was nervous.

She looked through the shelves, sorting through vials and things that looked like potions. Scott watched with curiosity, as she finally found what she was looking for. She sat down with the box, motioning for Scott to sit down. She sighed. "I was requested to do this, although I think he'd be more comfortable with you doing it." She pulled out a syringe, causing Vince to bury his face in Scott's shirt out of fear.

"What's that for?" Scott asked. "Well, they wanted to do a test. They think that the blood of a naga has special healing properties. So, I was requested to give them a vial of his blood. But I think he'd trust you to do it more." Scott hesitated for a moment, before taking the syringe. He sighed and looked down at Vince, who was now sobbing. Scott lifted his chin so that Vince was looking into his eyes. "Shhh...just be calm, and don't cry..please. I'll make it quick, and then maybe we'll both be able to go home." Vincent waited a moment, then nodded. "Alright, don't look at it, just keep your eyes on me." Scott smiled warmly, trying to keep Vince calm. Scott wrapped his arms around Vince, the syringe still in his hand. Vince closed his eyes, silent tears falling. Scott slowly put the needle into the back of his arm, Vince yelping and squirming. Scott drew up the blood, then began to pull out the needle.

Suddenly, Vincent's eyes widened, his white eyes glowing red. He clamped his teeth down on Scott's neck. Scott gasped, shoving Vincent as hard as he could, but that just made it worse. Vincent's razor sharp teeth dragged through his skin. Scott screamed, the mix of pain from the wound and the venom that was already running through his veins. Vincent growled, letting go and turning to Emily. She backed up,knocking a shelf over. Glass bottles cracked, some of the liquid emitting a green smoke. Vince turned his attention back to her, snarling. He lunged, although she moved out of the way. He hit the last shelf, knocking a potion onto the floor. Emily gasped, grabbing Vince and Scott and running out of the room. The liquids mixed together, and then boom.

Scott coughed and sat up, he didn't know where he was. It looked like the edge of a forest. He rubbed his eyes, then winced at the ache in his neck. He reached up and felt a bandage, then remembered what had happened. He looked around, seeing something in the bushes. Vince sat there, a good distance, from Scott. He was crying, a look of fear and guilt on his face. Scott got up and yelled. "I TOOK CARE OF YOU! I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO EVEN CARED! AND YOU SNAP ON ME!" Scott was furious.

"I-I'm so sorry! I was a-afraid! I n-never wanted to hurt you!" Vince cried out, sobbing harder. Scott stood up, walking away. "You're just an animal...no wonder they locked you in a cage."

Vincent wanted to say something but he couldn't. He hugged the teddy bear tighter, it was already soaked with tears. After Scott was out of sight, Vincent laid down, curling up. Scott's words rang through

his head as he felt the September chill seeping in.

"You're just an animal..."

[Good job Emily for self-inserting yourself in a shitty fanfic]
