3 months later.

Some things were just meant to be.

It was inevitable.

Scott sighed happily, leaning back into the warmth. Vince purred, wrapping his arms around the brunette's waist. Scott leaned his head back, giggling a little as Vince placed a gentle kiss onto his lips.

They both knew it. Once they'd admitted it, everything just melted together. All the pieces fell into place.

Scott had loved Vincent from the beginning. But, for some reason, there was some sort of hatred- probably from when they were kids, when Vince had bitten him.

"Promise me some dignity if I were to stand die here.." The naga sang, stroking Scott's hair gently.

Scott chimed in. " 'Cause my heart is somewhere else...."

"It's a pain I've never felt..."

"Time's racing..."

"Hey...Scott?" Vince interrupted, staring up at the beautiful blue sky.

"Yes, love?" Scott answered, smiling at him.

"Did you ever notice anything...odd? About this place?" Vince asked, looking around.

Birds sang. Insects buzzed. The trees blossomed, even though it wasn't their season. It was the perfect temperature, a soothing 70, and in the tree it was cooler. The light reflected perfectly over Vincent's scales, his skin smooth and perfect now that all the wounds had healed up.

"It's really pretty isn't it?" Scott nuzzled into Vincent's chest. His large tail was tangling off of the tree they were lying in. Surprisingly, the branch they were lying on held the near 400 pound weight.

"Do you remember when I found you again, you were standing alone, at the cliff's edge?" Vincent's tone grew serious. He gazed off, unable to meet Scott's eyes.

"....yes?" Scott answered after a bit of thought. What Vincent was asking made no sense.

"Does it look different?"

"....no." Scott looked around. Vincent was right. Everything looked exactly the same. It hadn't changed, despite all the time that had passed.

"Do you remember why you hated me, when we were young?"

"You bit me. I still have the scar."

"No. It ran deeper than that. You don't...you don't remember?" Vince met Scott's confused gaze. He looked worried.

"Remember what? You bit me, then I didn't see you for ten more years." Scott declared, recalling their previous encounters.

"No..no...You hated me for something more," Vince said, his voice cracking a little. "You hated me because I hurt you."

"No shit. You've got sharp teeth. Thanks, captain obvious." Scott sarcastically remarked.

"I tried to kill you. I pushed you off...I pushed you off the cliff."

Scott laughed out loud. He was nearly in tears from laughing so hard. That's got to be the dumbest thing Vince has come up with.

"What're you saying?" He asked once he managed to catch his breath.

"Come here." Vince said, sliding down the tree.

Scott groaned. He didn't want his personal man-beast-boyfriend-pillow to move. He pushed himself out of the tree, landing awkwardly on his feet.

Vince was already at the cliff's edge. The sun was lowering. His silver eyes gazed out over the horizon. Beautiful, sparkling lakes dotted the valley below. A small village could be seen among the sea of vibrant trees. The sun hovered over it all, like an orange halo. The cliff's edge gave them a perfect view of it all.

The naga gripped Scott's hand. Scott closed his eyes and smiled. Then, Vincent gripped tighter. And something came to him. A memory.

"Come on, Scotty!" A child's voice called.

Scott giggled as he chased after the boy and his brother. They were all around ten years old. The eldest, Ven, who was Vincent's brother, had dark black hair and bright blue eyes. Vincent, young with sparkling silver eyes like the moonlight and violet hair the color of a plum, was running through the brush, chasing after his brother. And Scott was chasing him; it was a big game of tag.

The perfect sky's were soon dampened.  Dark, ominous thunderclouds gathered overhead. Still, the children paid no mind. They just wanted to play their game.

"Guys, wait up!" Scott called, huffing a little. He was getting tired.

The dirt was turning into mud. It was hard to run in the new conditions.

The two brothers were standing alone at the cliff's edge. Scott tried to skid to a stop.

He was too late.

He plowed into both of them. Ven screamed, gripping onto Vince as he tumbled over the edge.

"Scott!" Vince cried,  gripping onto the edge. It was surprising that such a small boy could hold all of their weight up.

Scott tried to hold on. He was slipping. He couldn't do it.

Then, he let go.

"Now. Now do you see?" Vince said, snapping Scott out of his thoughts.

"I- but-" Scott was so confused, he didn't know what to say.

"I know, baby." Vince spoke softly, returning his gaze to the view. The sun was nearly down.

"You- you had legs." It was the first thing that stood out to him through the mess of questions in his head. "H-how?"

"Doesn't it all seem odd?"

"Very...very..."

"Look. I'm sorry. I'm going to let you go, sweetheart. Just know that I love you." Vincent's words came out pained and full of sorrow.

"What-? Vincent- what's going on?"

"I've dragged this out too long." He pulled Scott in, kissing him passionately. Scott was too confused to kiss back.

He didn't notice Vincent slowly shifting their position.

"Don't look down. Close your eyes. I love you."

And Vincent let go.

Scott felt the air being sucked from his lungs. His vision blurred. He hoped his lungs wouldn't give out. The drop was so, so far...

His vision went black before he hit the bottom.

-

Scott's body jolted. Everything was black. He couldn't see anything- but he was still breathing.

He heard something drop. Something shattered.

"O-oh god!" Jeremy dropped the cup in his hands. "H-he's alive! Guys, he lived!"

I'm still breathing, Scott thought. I'm still fucking breathing.
