I woke up again, but I was somewhere else. I was in a bed or even something close to it. The headache didn’t help me discover where I was. It made it worse—I regretted opening my eyes.

I moaned a little and rubbed my forehead. I sat up, possibly a little too quickly. I winced at the sharp pain in my head. “Whoa girl, easy there,” a familiar voice said. I felt something press down on my stomach, making me slowly fall back into the cot.

The voice belonged to the same person who helped me earlier. But who was it? I soon recovered my better vision, and I turned to look at the man who owned the voice. He had neat, short blonde hair and blue eyes. He seemed to be somewhere around thirty, I guessed.

“Wh—where am I? How did I get here?” I asked him, whoever he was.

“That doesn’t matter right now, all that matters is you are safe,” the man said. I still didn’t know who he was, but he looked strangely familiar.

“Fine… Who are you? Can you respond to that with a better answer?” I asked, propping myself up onto my elbows.

“I’m Steve Rogers,” he answered, “or as most know me, Captain America.”

     Oh.

“Well, Captain America, do you know why the Wrecking Crew was after me?”

“We know only a little bit, but we were hoping you could tell us more,” another man answered, waltzing into the room before Captain America could even answer.

“I was kind of hoping you could tell me sir,” I replied trying to sit up again, cringing a little bit. Captain America helped me up a little.

“Well all we know is that the Wrecking Crew needed you for a deal they made with an unknown person,” the man said. His eye patch really bothered me… “Colonel Nick Fury is my name.”

I gradually nodded when Fury gave me his name. “Why would they want me in a deal? I am only seventeen years old,” I inquired. I got better look around the room, since I was not so dizzy. “Is this an infirmary?”

He nodded. “Yes, we are on the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier. Captain America will give you a tour of the place, and you may speak to the other Avengers that are currently here. If you’ll excuse me, I have to go.” Nick Fury walked out of the room, and I stood on my feet alone.

“So… I guess we can start now, Cody,” Captain America chirped. “Oh, and you don’t have to call me Captain America. Just call me Steve.”

I smiled, nodding. He made sure I was okay and then motioned me to come out of the room with him. I followed him, and we left out of the room. He showed me almost all of the other essential rooms. There were some pretty cool places. He also explained to me what S.H.I.E.L.D. was and what is was all about.

“Have you been following the case of the New York City disaster?” Steve asked me. I shook my head no in reply. “That’s funny; I thought somebody like you would be all over this case.” He laughed a little bit as we continued to walk. We entered a very large area with many windows and people and even computers.

“This is the main base of the helicarrier. Over there are some computers, over there are more computers, and over there is— you guessed it: more computers.” I chuckled a little bit and he joined in.

Nick Fury walked over to us. “Have you finished your tour Miss Hunter?” He asked me. I nodded my head in reply. “Well, I guess you should begin meeting a couple of the Avengers.”

He said, starting to walk over to another room. If I remembered correctly, it was one of the meeting rooms. I followed him into there with Steve. Steve sat down, and I sat down beside him. It was only us three in the room.

“I will be right back,” Fury said, leaving the room and mumbling about the others being there, or something along those lines.

There was an awkward silence between me and Steve. I supposed none of us knew what to say. Out of habit, I tucked some of my dark brown hair behind my ear and leaned back into my chair.

“Let’s go see how Nick Fury is doing with rounding up the rest of the Avengers.” Steve got out of his chair, and I followed him into the main base. I heard Nick Fury talking over the intercom. I looked out the window, seeing a dark object in the sky. I tilted my head to the side in confusion.

“Fury, the helicarrier is in camouflage mode. I can’t see it at all out here!” exclaimed a man’s voice over the intercom.

“Well it shouldn’t be on at all. Now get in here!” Nick Fury said, seeming quite temperamental.

The object kept flying straight toward us. “I still can’t see—“ It hit the window with a thump. I cringed. It looked like it really hurt.

“Never mind, I found it Fury.” The voice sounded like it was in pain as the object slid down the glass. Nick Fury rolled his eye. I couldn’t help myself from chuckling a little bit.

Fury looked at me. “Just to let you know, Miss Hunter, the intercom is still on. He could have possibly heard you making a laugh out of his mistake.

I stopped and revealed a poker face. I gave him the thumbs up, nodding. “Thank you for letting me know that.”

He nodded and told me and Steve to go back into the meeting room. We did, without complaint.

“Which Avenger was that?” I asked Steve as we both sat back down.

“That was Iron Man,” he replied to me. “One thing you should learn before he comes in here is if he finds out you laughed at him, you will be sorry.”

I motioned my hand as if I were zipping my mouth closed. But I couldn’t help but laugh a little more, until a man with messy brown hair showed up in the room. I stopped at that moment. For some reason, I knew it was Iron Man—possibly because of the way he was glaring at me. He raised his eyebrow at me and then sat down at the opposite side of the table.

     He knew. Crap.

He finally stopped staring at me when Fury came in; he hopped up and started to talk with him.

I looked around the room a little bit more trying not to look at Iron Man, but it was so hard not to. I got a better peek once I turned around a little. But then I glanced at Fury and IronMan. What is that folder in Fury’s hand?
