RYANS POV
I'm glaring at them both from the small office that belongs to Luke and the one he should be in. But. NO, he's god knows where. I walk in slowly my steps controlled when I stop my hands go to my chest as I cross them, Scarlet looks at me, the shock disappearing slowly and being replaced with annoyance.
"Walker , what are you doing here"
"Well...I couldn't help but notice how loud you too were being, do us all a favor and shut your goddamn door"
Scarlet scoffed, it was off, she was a deputy and yet I had the balls to talk to her like this, that was because I find her rather unbearable, she's cocky and to big for her shoes. The Commander's face changes to one of a calm smile and my back goes straighter.
"Soldier"
His voice cuts through me like a sword to the chest my eyes still remain on Scarlet, I have a strong dislike for both of them, but I dislike The Commander more, but (weirdly) everyone else seems to enjoy his company, I try to not let the hatred fill my face.
"This is a private meeting, between me and the deputy"
"About what? Alexander? yeah, everyone in this damn base knows because you weren't careful and because of that, the public are half scared to death wondering if it's true,"
And including the fact that Scarlet, the prodigy, had gotten a almost lethal stab wound by Alexander's hands which had sunshine worried for days and now she's back on her feet again, if it was up to me she wouldn't even be allowed to leave her bed but that isn't my problem.
"And now your asking someone else to take the fall-"
"That's enough"
His voice makes my lungs forget they can breathe, Scarlet is looking at me her green eyes looking into my brown ones, she's likely enjoying this, she turns to the commander again.
"Yeah, if anything you should be the one to do this your the one with more power-"
"But who's one in the papers more, Thomson"
That makes her go quiet, he's right, she's well known almost to well known, it annoys me because it feels like everyone always talks about her, the prodigy this and prodigy that, and everyone wants to know what she's doing, and it gets to her head, she knows she skilled but she doesn't know when to stop, and that almost killed her. But in terms of public sway her voice would be louder, the general public care about what she has to say, they care for her safety, I wish they did that with just normal soldiers to, to them, we are pawns in this game, we are not humans with families, friends, partners, a past, a future even, just puppets that do all the fighting for them while they lay on their arse's doing god knows what.
She looks down, as if giving up and just nods, she's starting to see it in the commanders light, which even though I don't agree with, I can see it, the public need to remain calm in a time like this, I've heard stories about Alexander and Sarah but never fully looked into them but if someone didn't know who they were I'd be worried. I can see the gears turning in her mind, she's weighing out her choices.
"While I don't agree with it"
I speak up and her head turns to me as if saying 'not you to damnit' and I sigh.
"This is a time were the public need to keep their wits about them, need to be in the loop about this, and if we don't make a statement about this the royal pain in the asses will, point being this is a ticking time bomb"
"But I'm not about to lie to them"
Scarlet snapped, but her voice was quiet.
"You aren't lying to them. You're standing. you're okay, aren't you? you're not bleeding to death like you were seventy-two hours ago. You're speaking, you're fine"
My words seems to have stuck the wrong cord on the guitar that is her heart, she turns away from me and faces the commander a calm smile still painted on his lips, it's almost warm....almost .
"Fine"
She says quietly and that one word turns the commanders smile into a smirk.
"Good"
is the next word that comes out of his mouth and I calmly stare.
"We have a conference in an hour, don't keep the crowd waiting"
And with that, he walks out, his footsteps the only noise in this room and I can feel the anger beneath her calm face, the raging sparks that flutter under her skin, begging to be freed and cause chaos, but she holds them back, I open my mouth but she speaks first.
"I still feel like I'm lying to them"
"You aren't your fine-"
"But what if I'm not"
She snaps at me, and, just for a minute, I forget who am talking to, it didn't sound like her, she sighs and takes another deep breath.
"Honestly Walker, how the hell dose she put up with you"
Those words hit me, I wonder that question everyday, how can someone as bright as her even deal with me, yet alone enjoy my company I don't get the time to reply before she picks up and pen and paper.
"I need to write out this statement"
She says coldly.
"See ya"
And she fast walks out , I sigh and walk out to, but not to follow her but even then someone is in my way.
"Sunshine"
I say quickly, ah crap, I'm dead, her and Scarlet are close.
"How much did you hear?"
I ask, nerves entering my voice, she walks over to me.
"All of it"
She said softy like a parent telling off a young child, I turn away but when she's in front of me she turns my chin and lowers it to face her and then cups my cheek.
"Did you have to be so harsh about it"
She whispered softy and I lean into the touch only a little.
"It's the only way that gets though to people like her Alisa"
My voice is gentle, a tone I only use with her when we're alone, I think we're alone, I hope.
The best way to explain love in my eyes is when you can be at your weakest around someone and you don't hate it, as a soldier, this is something you never wish to feel but when you feel it, you never want it to stop.
