I glanced around the courtroom looking at all of the dreadful faces, I stumbled upon one imparticular, my mother. Saying that we weren't close would be putting it lightly, we were recently estranged due to the umm... circumstances. So there I was, prepared to make a fashion statement in my orange jump suit, of coarse provided by the county jail. My eyes remained interlocked with my mother's for what seemed like an eternity, until I was finally brought back to my senses when the judge called me up to the stand.

"Ms.Wate can you explain to the jury where you were at 7:30 pm on saterday night?" I shrugged "I was at kum and go." I heard a couple of harsh words spoken throughout the court as the judge called order.
"Now can you explain to me why exactly you were in that gas station, Ms.Wate?"
"To get gas, why else?" You could here the tension in my voice as I spoke, this was ridiculous.
"Are you sure you weren't there for a drug deal, cause police reports state that 6 pounds of marijuana were recovered at the scene."
"Only 6?" I laughed suprised
"Cause I'm sure I had atleast 8 at the time."
My mother stared at me looking disappointed, it wasn't hard to tell, the way her brow curled and her lips pursed out.
"That's not all that the officers found either, is it Ms.wate?"
"I assu-" He cut me off without giving me enough time to answer
"No, it's not. They also found over 6,000 dollars, a passport, and a fake I.D."
I felt the lump in my throat as tears started to come to my eyes, but I ignored them "Can you tell me how exactly a 17 year old girl working minimum shifts at a local fast food joint gets 6,000 dollars?"
He looked at me as though he was expecting a response, but I didn't answer. Then a large man in a black coat approached at the other stand, officer Dan Limb
" Originally I figured that you were growing some marijuana out of your backyard, but after checking I relized that you live in a 1 bedroom appartment. Still, I got a search warrant and looked around the premises, only to find what exactly? Can you tell the jury what I found?" He was cocky, arrogant, reminded me of my father, whom I loved very much but barley saw, again due to the circumstances. I grinned "What are you trying to prove, Dan?" I emphasized his name, making it sound degrading "You found a comic book collection. Okay, yeah I snatched it one by one over the years. I never really thought of them as being worth anything. I just knew that I thought they were cool. This one imparticular I got from my old pal Max's dresser drawer when I was like 13 years old, it was awesome. Well, turns out when Lutinant Dan over here searched the comic it was worth like 200 grand, yo. So I get this. 3'o clock court meetings, to what, try to make you believe that I'm not guilty? Well guess what, I am. I Stole that Comic book and I was at that gas station, and I had some weed in my car."
"Ms.Wate are you pleading guilty?" "Yeah, whatever, I did it, okay."
After taking a brief moment to consult the judge had the verdict
"Ms. Marie Wate shall be charged as an adult and sentenced to 6 years in a high security prison for grand larceny and illegal drug possession . "
He then tapped his little hammer thingy, which I now know is called a gavel.
"6 years, are you kidding me?!" I bursted out " I stole a fucking comic book!"

As the guards tightened the handcuffs around my wrists and locked them shoving the key into a safe place, I watched my mother file out of the court room with the other jury members. She had a tear in the corner of her eye, which then fell onto her cheek, and ran down her chin until she wiped it with a tan suede sleeve. I watched in awe for this was only the second time in my whole life I'd seen the woman cry. Like this time it was entirely my fault. The memory, which I've tried to surpress over the years still hangs in my mind vividly, how I broke part of her prized possession... that being my older sisters arm ofcoarse.

Soon enough I was being walked out of the courthouse and loaded into a white prison van. Where I was accompanied by 2 different gaurds that seemed to care far less about their jobs, along with them came another man in a red suit and blue tie, "I have some situations I need to go over with you Ms.Wate, I must inform you of which prison you will be escorted to at this time, there has been some new additions to the law inforcing industry and we have decided that J.P Clemens recreational facility would be best for you. They are the first male - female coordinate prison, and their system is very thorough, this is a high security prison, and the gaurds are very reasonable, but done think that people aren't watching you."

"What's a male - female coordinate prison?" I asked
"It's nearly the same as any other facility, men and women are not cell mates, but all cells are located together regardless of gender. There are also 2 separate shower rooms due to comfort reasons of both male and female inmates."
I stood there speechless, my mind wondering what hell the next 6 years would bring, as I climbed into the transport van. I was glad that I was being provided one more night at the jail instead of being directly sent to prison because that meant I had more time to try to get myself out of this. If only there was a way.

Just then the transport van pulled into the parking lot of the jail and escorted me inside to my cell, before uncuffing me. It was more like a conference room than a cell, just an old room with a mattress lied in the floor, it was kind of nice honestly, and I'd been calling it home for awhile now. That night I had strange dreams that reminded me of Alice in Wonderland, except I went down the rabbit whole to discover that it was nothing but dirt and my imagination deceived me.
