Chapter 5
"What are you doing here, fag?!", Hikaru tensed at the loud voice that bellowed through the halls. Everything stopped abruptly. No one moved. All eyes were on us. I turned around to the source of the voice to see tousled blonde hair that I haven't seen in a few days.
"Natsu...?", I asked questioningly, not getting why he said that.
"Natsu...", Hikaru whispered softly. I looked at him and saw he was trembling. What the fuck? Wait, more importantly, he knows Natsu?
"Hey, Hikaru, you okay?", I asked, putting my hand on his shoulder. Probing questions put aside, I have to focus my attention on my senior, who is shaking real badly.
"Tsubasa why the fuck are you near that faggot?!", Natsu bellowed from across the hall. A circle of students were gathering around us to watch this quickly developing situation. I snapped my head towards him with a look a shock and confusion on my face. Dod he just say that?
Again, What. The. Fuck.
A trembling hand clutched my upper arm. I looked towards Hikaru in concern. I don't get it. Why is he shaking? Wait...Oh gawd no. Is he having a panic attack? Shit, I don't know how to handle this!
He fell to his knees pulling me to my own with him. His other hand clutched the fabric over his heart as he started wheezing. Panic creeped up me but I forced it down. We can't have 2 people panicking here, can we?
"Hikaru, get a grip!", I said. I clutched both of his shoulders and shook his trembling frame. Well that certainly didn't help. Shitshitshit am I making it worst? Probably.
"Someone, call the school nurse!", I yelled, not knowing what to do.
"No! You should just let him die!", Natsu hissed. WHAT?! A sudden anger boiled within me.
"Ok I don't know what's your problem Natsu, but shut the fuck up!! You're not making anything better! He's having a fucking panic attack and you're standing there doing absolutely nothing except to yell and shriek because someone twisted your panties in a bunch!", I shouted angrily. Natsu stumbled back a few steps, shock evident on his face.
"I-"
"Enough!", a female voice yelled loudly through the chaos of students. Everyone instantly shut up when the principal walked amidst the crowd who parted to give her way. I widened my eyes. Shit did she hear me?
There was a brief pause before she started talking.
"I believe all of you have classes to attend to, am I wrong?", she said, addressing the crowd of students gathering around us. She arched a perfectly manicured brow and cocked her hips to the side. Everyone scurried to their classes leaving me, Hikaru, Natsu and her.
She gave a glance at Natsu then back to Hikaru and me. I was currently on the floor, hugging Hikaru tightly to me while his trembling hand clutched on my shirt. His head was buried into the crook of my neck and he was panting heavily. Now I know this position is... compromising, might I say, but don't blame me! I don't know what the hell I should do!
"Tsubasa, bring the new boy to the infirmary, stat!", the headmistress, Mrs Mas(full name; Masami) said to me. I nodded quickly and picked up Hikaru by his shoulder. He was a bit heavy but I managed to support him as I stood on wobbly knees.
"Shit, Hikaru you gotta try to walk with me.", I said securing my grip on his sides. He nodded weakly and started to stand on his own legs, lifting some of the burden of his weight from me.
"Now, you, young man, are coming with me to the office.", Mrs Mas said to Natsu as he hung his head low and nodded stiffly.
"Tsubasa, please join us when the boy is in stable conditions.", she smiled warmly at me. I gave a short smile and said a quick 'yeah, sure' before dragging Hikaru's half-limp body to the infirmary. All the while, I wondered.
What the fuck just happened?
~
I sighed in relief as I sat in a chair besides the bed Hikaru was occupying. He was breathing evenly again, which made me super relieved yet super exhausted at the same time. We had a lot of trouble figuring out what needed to be done for him to calm down. Turns out he just had to hear to something steady. In this case we had used a heartbeat. My, heartbeat specifically. Gosh it was embarrassing.
When I brought him to the infirmary he managed to mumble the words 'steady' and 'beats' and motion his ears. The nurse and I were dumbfounded for a while before picking up that he needed to hear a steady beat to calm down. And before you ask, no, there was no direct contact. It was a good thing the nurse had a stethoscope.
A groan emitted from the sleeping body in front of me and I snapped out of my thoughts, focusing on a now waking up Hikaru.
"God, what happened.", he mumbled as he sat up and massaged his temples. He looked at me then around the room as if to confirm where he was.
"Uh, tour? New school? Natsu?", I said hoping to help him remember the events that just played out. He looked puzzled for a while before his eyes widened in realization. "Oh...", he said softly a small blush creeping up his cheeks. Aww, he's so cute!
"Sorry you had to see that... Must've been ugly, huh?", he said jokingly grinning shyly up at me. I shook my head.
"Well, I did panic 'cause I never handled a panic attack before but I'm glad you're okay.", I said sheepishly. He beamed happily at me. I smiled back. And then a heavy silence fell between us.
...
Okay, this is getting awkward.
"Well, if you're okay now, I have to get going. The principal wants to see me in her office with Natsu, so...", Hikaru flinched at the mention of Natsu and this did not go unnoticed.
"Yeah... Sure...", he mumbled. I scrunched my brows in confusion. Whet?
"Uh listen I know this is private but, what's your relationship to Natsu? You seem flustered when you're around him.", I asked as he hung his head and avoided my gaze. I raised a brow. Weird.
"It's ok if you don't wanna answer. I totally get-"
"No.", he said firmly. "You deserve to know at least that...", he continued softly. Okay... I nodded silently.
He took a deep breath as if to calm himself and clutched the white sheets of the bed. He slowly raised his head and locked his baby blue eyes with my own green's.
The next words he said made my jaw drop.
"He's my brother."
To be continued...
