Chan POV
The tips of his ears felt hot and were undoubtedly bright red. The blunt statement from Changbin had left him sputtering and choking on the sip of water that had just touched his tongue. His head snapped to glare at the other alpha beside him before his attention was quickly stolen by Y/N who had gone into a coughing fit.
Or perhaps she was actually choking.
He stood to move over to her, stopping when she held a hand up and motioned for him to sit. Hesitantly, he did as she asked and returned to his seat, keeping his concerned gaze on her.
Once the coughing fit was under control, Y/N seemed to relax and smiled softly, though there was something bitter lingering in her scent. His chest felt heavy the moment he realized it was something similar to guilt or possibly regret, adding the bitterness to her tea-like scent. Reaching up, he rubbed at his nose unconsciously while he watched her push her food around in her bowl as she stared down at it.
"Two offers in one day, I must be lucky."
He froze at that, his breath catching in his throat. "You had already gotten another offer?" They were already too late after all, weren't they?
"Yeah, uh," she seemed nervous for some reason, the bitterness of guilt growing stronger in her scent. "It was actually Woojin who asked for me."
As that name left her lips, Chan zoned out, his eyes glossing over as any other words spoken sounded muffled for a moment. He wasn't sure how long he had been sitting there, it still felt like mere seconds, but her food was already gone and she was focused on her phone in her hand. Changbin said something to her, but he had no idea what, it all sounded like jumbled none sense to him, Y/N still responded though.
"That's alright, Woojin was actually picking me up after my class, so he should be here soon."
Someone approached them from behind the pair of alphas, catching her attention and being granted the most brilliant smile he'd seen. "Speak of the devil." The man leaned down to her, placing his hand under her chin to tilt her face up as his lips crashed onto hers. He could do nothing else but watch as this man practically ate her face in front of them before finally pulling away.
"Is my omega ready to go?"
That beautiful smile only seemed to widen further, her cheeks an adorable shade of red as she stared up at the other alpha in what could only be described as awe. She nodded and stood as Woojin took her arm in his, facing Changbin and himself as he looked down at them with a smirk on his face. Chan could do nothing as the pair walked by him, the grip on his chopsticks leaving his knuckles white and the creaking of the wooden utensils threatening to snap. "-an?" He heard something muffled but chose to ignore it, regret and irritation building up within him. It was official, they had missed their chance to have a surrogate that seemed to be a perfect fit for his pack. And it was Woojin who got her instead.
"Chan?" A hand was gently placed over his, another taking the chopsticks and setting them down. Blinking down at the hand on his, he followed the arm connected to it to find Y/N still sat before him, bowl still mostly full, and no Woojin in sight. Had he just imagined the whole scenario in his head? Maybe some of his pack mates were right and he really did need to work on his sleep schedule.
Y/N's POV
"It was actually Woojin who asked for me."
It was Changbin's turn to choke having taken a bite right as she spoke. He sputtered and coughed, grabbing a napkin and quickly covering his mouth.
"Yah! You're joking, right? It's a joke."
She glanced down to her noodles, pushing them around before giving in and setting her chopsticks down. Her gaze lifted to meet Changbin's pleading expression before having to look away as her arms crossed in front of her chest.
"No, he definitely asked."
A soft grumble and wine could be heard coming from the alpha, leaving her surprised he genuinely seemed upset at the thought of somebody else asking her to be their surrogate. She wasn't sure what sort of reaction she was expecting, but this wasn't it. Not wanting to drag it out and leave the man feeling such a way, she spoke up again as her eyes locked onto his.
"I said no."
His eyes ever so slightly widened at the revelation the corners of his lips curling into a small smile. "Really?" A glimmer of hope shinning in his eyes, his smile slowly widening. "Why?"
A single eyebrow raised as she watched him nearly grow giddy with excitement. "Wasn't interested. It didn't seem like a good fit."
"And? Are we a good fit?"
She couldn't stop herself from blushing, though she certainly made the attempt and looked down with her tongue pressed against the inside of her cheek. Her lips twitched into a smile as she clicked her tongue with annoyance at herself.
"That sure looks like a yes to me." She glanced up at him, seeing his wide grin turn into a smirk as he leaned forward with his elbows on the table. "So cute. Does that blush possibly mean I'm your bias?"
At that, the red on her face rapidly spread, completely covering her cheeks as well as her ears. "Not exactly." Her voice was quiet and she attempted to look at anything but him, failing miserably as her eyes kept shifting back to the man.
"Oh, then, who is your bias?"
Her mouth opened to reply, but before she could actually say anything, the scent of an upset alpha filled her senses. The smell of burning sweet tobacco made her nose scrunch before she quickly covered her nose and mouth with her hand while her eyes focused in on the one that scent was coming from.
Chan hadn't said much of anything since Woojin was brought up and as she looked at him in that moment, she could see his eyes were slightly glossed over and he clearly was not fully present. "Chan?" He didn't react, just kept staring forward as the anger and upset in his sent only grew stronger. The grip he held on his chopsticks was so tight they seemed ready to snap. With worry etched across her face she reached out to place her hand on his arm, calling his name once more in an attempt to gain his attention. She watched as his eyes snapped down to her hand before focusing in on her, the far away look in his eyes disappearing completely.
A sigh of relief left her lips, lungs slightly burning as she realized she had been holding her breath after the first instance of her picking up his upset sent. Her head cocked to the side, studying his reaction with concern. "Everything alright?" A frown tugged on his lips as she retracted her hand while her own brow furrowed in confusion.
The alpha seated directly in front of her visibly took a breath to calm himself, the burning notes in his scent evening out into the more pleasant earthy scent she had noted earlier of sweet tobacco and oakmoss with something that reminded her of the salty sea air near the ocean. His ears and neck were tinged red with embarrassment, dropping the chopsticks and bringing his hand up to run through dark locks and scratching at the back of his head while his eyes fell to the table in front of him, avoiding her gaze.
"Sorry about that."
She pushed out more of her own scent, focusing on the calming notes of chamomile and lavender, feeling the need to help him with whatever was going on. She noticed Changbin watching him with concern as well, his own hand coming up to rest on his pack alphas shoulder, the look of concern quickly shifting into something teasing and mischievous.
"Channie-hyung! You don't need to be upset just because I'm her favorite!" She watched Chan's look of confusion as Changbin moved his hand to the man's opposite shoulder, pulling him into a side-hug while seated beside one another. "After all, she said she'd have our babies, so she must like you at least a little bit." Chan's eyes flickered between the other alpha and her, confusion giving way to hope but still lingering there as if waiting for her to confirm Bin's words.
With a soft chuckle and a look of feigned annoyance briefly sent to the other alpha, she focused back on Chan, meeting his hopeful gaze. "I did not word it that way, but I am saying yes." A shy smile formed on Chan's face but he hesitated, seeming to need further clarification. "You said no to Woojin and you're choosing us?" It was clear self doubt was lingering in his words, needing reassurance she didn't choose the other alpha.
"I'm choosing you."
