Chapter 9
" You do realize the responsibility of having her stay, right?" my mother inquired after we got Kira tucked in for the night.
"yes i do, and i couldn't just leave her there!" i had told my mom about everything that had happened in the past few days, explaining Kira, the cut on my head--which is now almost gone, and where we were.
"Alright. as long as you take care of her, she can stay. But, there will be little or no trouble and she is going to have to go with you to school, you know."
"Oh, yeah. School. i wonder how that will go...."
" She wont be going with you right away. i'll keep her here until she is fully settled."
"Thanks, mom. Your the best!" i said reaching out to give her a hug, but i stopped mid-motion at the sight of her stare.
"Don't push it. Well, on that note, i'm off to bed and you should do the same."
" Okay, goodnight!"
i walked up to my room and shut the door behind me. Wow, i really love my mom, but sometimes, she can be really scary.
Lying my head down on my pillow for the night, i thought of what mom said. I mean, i knew bringing Kira home with me was going to be a big change and that i would be responsible for her, but just how big was this job? how would she act at school? would people like her or treat her like dirt?
Sadly, i didn't have any answers for any of these questions. I guess only time will tell... i thought. i hope it goes well at school.

"Tristan? do you think you could give this to your principal? it's just to say that Kira will be joining you at school tomorrow as a old family friend." My mom called, walking into the kitchen, handing me this papers.
"Uh, okay. By the way, where is--" i cut my question short as Kira came waltzing through the door, seating herself on my lap.
"Um, good morning, Kira." i said, looking at her as she attacked my breakfast. "I see you've made yourself at home."
She didn't even hesitate in gulping down my orange juice after she finished the toast. Well, i guess I'm not having food this morning....
"Oh, honey! your late! you better get going." mom said. at that, Kira looked up at me, questioning.
"Kira, you have to stay here while i go to school, Okay? and you have to be good for mom. No funny business." i concluded, placing her in the stool beside mine and stood.
Grabbing my bag, i walked to the door. As i was about to step onto the porch, i heard feet pounding towards me. Before i even had a chance to look up, Kira had already engulfed me in one of her bear hugs.
"Tristan no go!" she whispered into my ear.
"It's alright!" i chuckled, "I'll be back before you know it. i'll only be gone for a couple hours."
"back?"
"Yes, i'll be back later, but now i have to go or else i'll miss the bell."
Understanding this, she slowly let me go. " Back later."
i smiled. "Yes, i'll be back. be good!" i called over my shoulder and i raced towards the school.

when i was in class, i couldn't help but worry about Kira. What if she got into trouble when she was here? how would she react to all the attention she may get?
i shook my head trying to rid my head of such thoughts.
"Hey, Tristan! I've been calling you for the past 10 minutes! whats wrong with you?" Liam cried, waving his hand in front of my face.
Snapping to attention, i faced him. "I'm just thinking about how Kira's going to handle being here."
"Whoa, she's coming here? when?" Liam was obviously excited.
"Depending on how well she does today. She stayed at home with mom, so we just have to wait and see. I'll text you when we know for sure. who knows? it might be tomorrow."
Just then the bell rang sending us all off to the buses. As always, i started walking.
Step after step, i remembered the last time i had walked down these streets. i remembered feeling free of Hannah's wrath but then finding myself a bit lost in the forest. i don't really know if i was meant to find Kira, but all i know is that i would take care of her. i didn't really know either why i felt like this, but i guess its just the way she looks at me. her eyes full of curiosity in every waking moment.
I just hope the sentence 'Curiosity killed the cat' was just a myth.
