The Beauty
My eyes flutter open groggily, my head pounded and my neck was stiff. I groaned and rolled my neck. I tried to lift a hand to massage my temple when I'm met with resistance. I pulled harder but it didn't budge. Panic crept in me as my eyes flew open, this time with more clarity.
Aethonix. Ana. Power outrage. Abduction.
I straightened, the panic that was just creeping in hit in full blow. Blinking several times, I tried to clear the haze and see where I was more clearly.
Various voices crept in, and I looked around to find myself in a small warehouse looking area, several men lined up at several positions and . . . I wasn't alone. Several girls lined up on the ground with their limbs tied, some conscious, others unconscious.
Ana.
My head swiveled around, swallowing the knot of dread in my throat. The voices tuned in. "Let us go or else . . ." The voice sounded familiar. I looked at its direction and my heart stopped beating for a moment.
There she is.
Ana struggled against the rope with all her might glaring at the guard who stared down at her with annoyance. "Yeah and what will you do, little girl?" Another one piped in. He had bald head and a sick grin on his face.
"Untie my wrist and find out. Or are you too chicken shit to do that?" She retorted. My blood roared with panic. What is she doing?
The man's smile vanished as he glared down at her, anger evident in his voice. "What did you say, girl?"
Oh god. Keep your mouth shut for fuck's sake. We need to get out of here, not provoke them.
My unspoken pleas fell on deaf years and she retorted with the same fiestiness. "You heard me. I called you a chicken shit."
His eyes flared, anger shining in them. He shoved the previous guard back and delivered a sharp slap to her cheek. I flinched. His feet pulled up in a kick to her stomach. Anger overruled the fear inside of me. There's nothing that swallows fear like seeing someone you love getting hurt. I shout, "Hey! Stop hurting her!"
All the heads swiveled towards me, but I didn't give a fuck right now. He narrowed his eyes at me, then smirked and kicked right at her ribs. She let out a pained grunt. The other guard straightened in alarm, "Sir-" The bald man cut him off with a sharp glare.
Fear and anger battled for domination, along with my need to get us out of here. He kicked her in the ribs again and she curled up on the floor. My heart clenched at the sight.
Its all because of me. If I hadn't agreed to go to that club, this wouldn't have happened.
"Stop stop!" I sounded pathetic in my panicked shout. The sick gleam in his eyes returned.
"Maybe if she begs for forgiveness, I can think about it." He quipped, as if the scene was particularly humorous.
Ana spat on his feet then sat up with a grunt, still defiant as ever. His eyes flashed and he raised a hand to hit her again.
The door flew open and he stepped back, clenching his jaw tight. I let out a breath of relief. The slap from before was forming a bruise on her face.
My moment of relief was short-lived the second my eyes landed on the newcomers. Coal black orbs scanned the room before landing on me and a flash of recognition passed in them before dimming again. It was so fast that I'd have missed it if I blinked.
I'm ashamed of the amount of relief that flooded the second he strolled inside. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't. His eyes roamed over everyone present in the room, pointedly avoiding to look at me. The relief that I felt twisted into a sense of dread.
