Ebony black roses stained with drops of crimson. Ruby trails trickling down her arms, skin pierced with thorns coloured deep like pine. Fragrant like myrrh, her essence poured like raindrops on glass. The air hung heavy with iron. Beneath her, a pool filled to overflowing. The bright liquid sparkled as it sloshed around, appearing mercurial.

A cool breeze slipped inside, brushing against her translucent skin. Her eyes fluttered open; magenta glared down at him. Orbs crystalline like diamonds stared back with obsessive fascination.

She opened her mouth to speak, only for gurgles and strained whines to whisper in the wind. He didn't hear a single word. She couldn't say them. Not anymore. Pain struck her strongly; she choked back her breath. A slow inhale, and the air scratched her throat like sandpaper. All she could do was painfully swallow and calm her aching heart.

He stood there for a few minutes; his gaze ran over her like a carriage. Hard with no way to stop it. It was like this each day. He entered the dark room, watched her life fade away, drop by drop. And just as quietly as he came, he left. No words exchanged, only looks of delusion and rage.

Chained like a prisoner, bones aching, joints swollen and stiff, she waited for the final drop. Her lips cracked, dry, peeling; her hair, knotted, stayed flat, without shine. The glow on her skin, the light in her eyes...the life in her veins...all slipped away. Hours, minutes, days, seconds, everything muddying without the sun; her hope lost in the darkness.

Her self crushed, pitiful and weak.

Again, he came, preying like a lion. The cold jostled her nerves, fire prickled her extremities; needles poked at every joint. Her eyelids peeled up, pupil shot wide, dull. His prideful, arrogant steps never shifted. The madness and deceit in his smile were impossible to conceal. Even as she hung there, flesh tacked to bone, fat melted away, skeleton dissected whilst alive, he worshiped her from below, mind hazed, eyes blown over, pink with hearts.

Her chest tightened, heart fluttering with fear and disgust. Her lungs filled and emptied, barely stretching, wrinkled like dried prunes. Whatever dust remained in her veins weakly spurted out.

The final drop.

He approached the pool of red, surface glinting even without the sun. Hand dipped inside, he sighed, content. It was cool on his fingers, viscous yet smooth, like liquid velvet. He watched it slide from his skin, drop by drop. Again. Again. And again.

Kneeled there, arm leaned against the side, head rested, he dipped his hand in and out. He smiled, revelling in the scent that poisoned his mind stupid and coated his tongue. He stayed there, dreaming until his bones rattled like hers. He breathed his last, his hand stained a deep, rich wine, nearly black.

Ebony black.
