Jack be lethal...

Mr. Ackerman,

This is (Y/n) (L/n) emailing you for scheduling a tutoring session. I don't personally believe I need help studying, as I was just having a bad day. Normally my grades are very high and I plan to improve on my next test. If tutoring is necessary I would prefer to be paired up with another female to stay within my comfort zone.

Thank you for understanding,

(Y/n).

(Y/n) hit send and breathed a sigh of relief. She felt so much better getting that out of the way and pushing the memory of failure out of her mind at last.

She pulled the graded test out of her bag to look over her mistakes but stopped dead in her tracks, staring down at the paper in numb shock. (Y/n) could tell immediately that her answers were changed.

Eraser marks around the correct answers- the ones she had chosen- and a nearly perfect circle (the circles she drew were a mess) around the obviously wrong answers. Someone made her fail the test... and she was pretty sure who that someone was.

The next time I see Mr. Ackerman, I'll give him a piece of my mind. (Y/n) fumed. If he gets too scary I'll go straight to the principal. I deserve a better grade than this.

(Y/n) looked over at her laptop again, remembering that there was, perhaps, another email she should send out. The school had an email account for everyone in the system so that groups could work remotely on projects together and students could send out club information and similar things for convenience.

She had completely forgotten to set up a time for the ice cream meet-up with Sasha and Connie. All she knew was that it was tomorrow.

Hey Guys!

Totally forgot to ask what time we're meeting up tomorrow! What time works best for you both? I'm free all day!

-(Y/n)

(Y/n) flopped onto her mattress and stared at the plain white ceiling. She hoped that one of the pair would reply soon because she really wanted to go to sleep soon and she wanted to know if she could sleep in tom-

The notification sound on her phone pierced the silence of the room, making the (h/c)-haired girl let out a little gasp of surprise. She reached over and picked up her phone, tapping the button to turn it on. It was a "new email" alert.

That can't be them already, can it? (Y/n) hurried back over to her laptop and pulled up her emails. Sure enough, the only unread email was from Sasha. Must've had his emails open at the time. I would never be that fast to reply, even with notifications on.

re: Ice Cream

HI (Y/N)!!!!!!!!!!

WE'RE GOOD WITH ANY TIME TOO!!!!!

IS 1:00 PM GOOD FOR YOU?!?!?!!?

CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOUUUUUU!!!!!

(Y/n) stared at the email for a few moments, surprised by the excessive number of punctuation and capital letters. I guess I should have expected that. Connie and Sasha are a bit excitable. She shot back a quick email agreeing to the time and flopped down on her bed once again.

Her digital clock read "11:37 PM" but (Y/n) didn't feel the least bit tired. I should invite Stacy. I don't really like the idea of being alone with two guys and I'm sure they wouldn't mind her tagging along. She pulled out her phone and shot her best friend a quick text.

Bestie

Hey Girl! You busy at 1 tmrw?

It'll include ice cream ;)

The response was even faster than Sasha's email reply and the girl couldn't help but laugh at Stacy's excited replies.

Bestie

(Y/n) stared at the ceiling once more, getting under the covers and closing her eyes. Sleep rarely came easily to her, but tonight was worse than average. One peek at the clock: "12:32 am". Second peek: "1:55 am". Third peek: "2:01 am".

At some point sleep overtook her. But when (Y/n) awoke in the morning she felt more tired than when she went to sleep. She couldn't remember her dreams but she had an unexplainable suspicion that they were all nightmares.

Rolling out of bed was a challenge in itself but stumbling around, trying to get ready while half-asleep, took way more effort than (Y/n) expected. She honestly just wanted to collapse back on her comfy mattress and let sleep overtake her once more. Somehow she always slept better in the morning after she already woke up.

She'd slept in longer than she would have liked and had only two hours to kill before the ice cream meet-up. She turned her phone on to see no new notifications and promptly tossed it onto the bed. Time to eat something that will keep my stomach from constantly rumbling but not spoil my appetite for ice cream.

1 pm rolled around and (Y/n) found herself on a booth, sandwiched between Sasha and Connie, while Stacy sat across from them alone The two boys had looked confused and slightly upset that Stacy was invited along.

(Y/n) figured it was because she didn't give them a heads-up, but she did find the way they pointedly ignored and interrupted Stacy every time she opened her mouth disturbing. Why are they acting like this?

The near-hostile aura Connie and Sasha projected towards Stacy didn't fade once during their hang-out. Not even when the ordered treats were passed around did the two acknowledge Stacy's existence.

They did, however, hang on (Y/n)'s arms and try to spoonfeed her bites of ice cream.

When it was time to head home, (Y/n) was hit with a wave of relief but, even as they hurried out of the little parlor, she couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was happening.

And maybe her instincts were even more right than she knew.
