You sink your teeth into the people you depend on...

(Y/N) had been feeling strange the past couple of days. That was the only word she could find to describe it- "strange". It loomed over her like some sort of dark presence at every moment. Inciting paranoia in her by day and insomnia at night. It wasn't a good kind of "strange" in any sense of the word.

Stacy was with her at every moment she could be but that gave (Y/N) little reassurance. The feeling was almost suffocating then, as though it was burning up her skin. As though invisible eyes watching her suddenly were filled with rage. That's how it feels, isn't it? Like something's watching me at all times.

"Come on, (Y/N), it's a gorgeous day! We should walk this time! For once? Pretty pretty please?" Stacy's bottom lip pursed into a playful pout as she fluttered her eyelashes, "For me?"

The (hair color)-haired girl frowned and broke eye contact with her pleading friend. She couldn't find the courage or words to explain how she felt, even to her closest friend. Sure, that awful feeling was there at all times, driving (Y/N) insane, but it seemed worse when she walked outside. That feeling of needing to look over her shoulder at all times, that jump every time something rustled in the bushes, that constant sound like footsteps behind her... the paranoia was unbearable.

Yet, here she was, allowing Stacy to drag her out into the admittedly nice daylight. She was right- the sun was warm, but not hot, and the sky was a beautiful bright blue... It was the perfect day. And, like the brightening sun, (Y/N) felt a little brighter too.

The walk to school was surprisingly nice and cheerful. Stacy and (Y/N) laughed and talked like old times, the strange feeling long forgotten.

It was like the world screeched to a halt the moment (Y/N)'s foot touched the stone pathway leading to the school doors. That warm sunshine turned icy cold and the blue sky morphed into a dark gray. The hairs on the back of her neck prickled and she shivered. The feeling was back, and it had caught her completely off-guard this time.

Two large hands slammed down on her shoulders and she spun around, all the breath in her lungs evaporating and leaving her gasping for breath. Reiner's playful grin greeted her and (Y/N) had a sudden flashback to the first day of school, when he'd done the same thing. His eyes searched hers for something and his grin faded a little.

"How are you doing, babe?" Reiner asked, voice a little softer than normal.

"Good." The classic response left her lips automatically, "How are you?"

"Better now that you're here!" That grin was back and wider than before.

(Y/N) cleared her throat, still trying to calm her wildly pounding heart, "Class will be starting soon."

Reiner made an "mhm" sound and his eyes flicked up to stare at Stacy, who met his gaze with blazing eyes. She looked furious as she stalked over and grabbed (Y/N)'s arm, yanking her from the blonde's grip. It was Reiner's turn to have a wave of fiery anger in his eyes, his mouth swapping that grin for a snarl.

(Y/N) allowed her friend to drag her into the building and into Mr. Smith's classroom. To be honest, Reiner had made her uncomfortable and she welcomed an excuse to escape that situation. Both girls took their seats and watched the rest of the class filter in, Reiner among them. He glanced at (Y/N) with an almost sheepish smile, completely ignoring Stacy's returning fury from next to the (hair color)-haired girl.

The clock struck 9 am and Mr. Smith began his lecture. His bright blue eyes would always blankly scan the room but they somehow managed to fall on (Y/N) for an extended period of time before continuing on. Annie arrived late as always, although it was considered early considering he even made it to the first class.

Annie picked up Connie, who was sitting behind (Y/N), by the back of his shirt and dropped him into a nearby seat. Despite Connie's feeble protests, Annie claimed the smaller boy's seat and gave him a triumphant smirk. Connie pouted and slumped into his new seat, glaring at the blonde who now took that treasured seat behind (Y/N).

Mr. Smith stared, mouth slightly agape, at the interaction. Rather than say anything, he furrowed his large eyebrows and cleared his throat, beginning the day's lesson as though nothing had happened at all. Annie kicked his feet up onto the desk and poked (Y/N)'s head with the toe of one of his sneakers. The girl whipped her head around, confused, but Annie just stared blankly back at her.

Math was a dull blur, (Y/N) barely able to concentrate with Annie's shoe prodding at the back of her head every few seconds. The blond-haired boy seemed to greatly enjoy her discomfort, tapping harder when (Y/N) appeared to get used to the poking. After the bell rang, the girl tried to rush out of the classroom, intending to head to the bathroom to fix her undoubtedly messy hair, thanks to a certain boy's shoe.

Before (Y/N) could take her second step outside of the classroom, Annie pushed her against the wall. His piercing blue eyes glared at the girl's frightened (eye color) eyes. Her mind went immediately to the kiss Annie had once forced on her and she briefly wondered if he was planning on repeating that action. To her surprise, the blonde's eyes seemed to soften a little as he brushed back her hair.

He leaned forward and kissed her sweetly on the cheek before whispering into her ear.

"You're really quite intoxicating you know. You should be careful with who you're messing with."

And then he was walking away, hands shoved into his pockets and shoes squeaking quietly against the floor. (Y/N) could only watch him leave in numbed disbelief.

That feeling was back now and it seemed to be all around her. She almost wanted this to have been a nightmare because, although the situation wasn't all that scary, this strange feeling was making her life a living hell.
