I don't know much about funerals, sorry. I borrowed a lot of these lines from online eulogies. Also, this is a particularly short chapter because I wasn't sure what to write.

So...

(Y/n) looked nervously at the crowd sitting before the stage, playing idly with her notecards for a moment before taking a deep breath. From the crowd, several of her new friends gave her an encouraging look. Even Jean gave her a nod from next to Marco.

"Stacy was my best friend. We were closer than sisters. Many of my earliest memories are of us playing American Idol with our Barbies, dressing up as Disney princesses, and pretending to be ninja spies. As we grew up together, side-by-side, our interests matured and so did we. She inspired me to be a better person and to try new things, like attend an actual high school instead of being homeschooled. I have her to thank for so many things. It's so hard to believe she's gone..." (Y/n)'s voice trailed off as she choked up. Tears flooded her eyes and she tried not to break out in sobs. "She was a shining star that burned out too soon."

The crowd clapped politely as (Y/n) took her seat once more, wiping tears from her eyes. The boy sitting next to her, Reiner, slung an arm around her shoulder. While she normally may have been uncomfortable, she was too miserable to care. It felt comforting today.

Stacy was gone. That fact was a tough pill to swallow. (Y/n) couldn't imagine going back to the high school without her. It felt wrong.

After the funeral, she voiced her thoughts to her friends as they milled around the gravesite. "I might go back to being homeschooled," (Y/n) admitted.

Sasha's eyes practically bugged out of his head. "What? But you can't!"

"Sasha's right," Armin said smoothly, "You can't self-isolate from your other friends, no matter how hard it might be."

(Y/n) nodded heavily, "You're right, Armin... you're always right."

Reiner clapped the mourning girl on the back, letting his palm linger there longer than necessary, "We'll all do our best to heal together. Stacy was our friend too, remember?"

Bertolt glanced at his blonde friend out of the corner of his eye, not saying what he was truly thinking. The truth was, Stacy had never gotten along with anyone other than (Y/n). To claim that all of them cared that Stacy was dead was beyond a stretch.

Bertolt could sense it in all of them. The calm relief that came with having one less competitor for (Y/n)'s heart. Even he had to admit that he wasn't sorry to see her go. Maybe it meant (Y/n) would pay more attention to him for once.

When (Y/n) was with Stacy, everyone else was in second place. The two best friends only had eyes for each other. It didn't help that Stacy was annoyingly clingy.

If (Y/n) thought that all Stacy wanted from her was friendship, then she was dead wrong. It was clear that she, too, had felt something much deeper for (Y/n). Although her love was much more innocent than Bertolt and Reiner's.

Armin was quick to put her doubts to ease, that was good. He was smart, but really, that just made him serious competition. In fact, Bertolt suspected all of his male classmates of having a dark obsession with (Y/n).

The way they looked at her made his stomach twist unpleasantly. It always made him wonder: do I have that same longing expression?

(Y/n) came back to school after a few days of mourning, as promised. But something about her had changed. She was like a hollow shell of her former self. Even the best jokes only earned a sad half-smile from the girl.

Sasha and Connie did their best to cheer her up, dialing their antics up to try to earn a laugh from her. They were so far unsuccessful.

The two talked in private, trying to make plans for how to make her happy again, but failing to come up with anything substantial.

"At first I was happy that Stacy was gone, but it hurts to see her this way," Sasha said softly.

"I know," Connie groaned, "And I'm sure she'll recover eventually, but right now must be so difficult for her..."

"We can't ever let her figure it out," Sasha said, his tone serious, "We can't ever let her find out it was us that killed Stacy."

...could you?
