Lisa sat quietly on the couch, her hands resting in her lap, her eyes unmoving, pretending to see nothing. She didn't need her vision to know that Jennie was seated beside her, close enough for their shoulders to brush.
Across from them, Jennie's mom and Lisa's grandmother sat side by side, the tension in their shoulders loosening with each word that passed between them.
"I'm really sorry for what happened," Jennie's mom began, her voice lined with genuine concern. Her eyes softened as they landed on Lisa. "If Jennie was made accountable for something that put you in danger, then I have to take responsibility too. As her mother."
Lisa slowly turned her head in her direction, a faint smile playing on her lips. "Please don't apologize. I deserve it," she said softly. "What I'm going through now... it's nothing compared to what I put Jennie through."
Jennie's gaze snapped toward Lisa, her heart thudding painfully. There was something about the way Lisa said that—so gentle, yet full of quiet regret—that made her realize once again just how deep Lisa's love ran.
Grandma reached out, placing a hand over Lisa's. "You've really grown," she murmured with a tearful smile.
Jennie's mother nodded slowly. "To be honest, Lisa. I didn't like you at first," she admitted, her voice steady but calm. "Three months after Jennie's first marriage, she got hurt deeply already... I saw how broken my daughter was, how depress she was. But then... I saw how you put all your efforts towards my daughter, the way you always came to our house and ask if Jennie comes back.. About how you regret everything.. You even helped our company during our lowest though you're not with Jennie that time anymore."
Lisa bowed her head respectfully, hands clutching the hem of her shirt. "I love Jennie," she said, every word crisp with sincerity.
"More than anything in this world. That's why... I'm asking, with everything I have left—please allow me to try again. Give me one last chance and I'll do better this time. I want her to feel to be love unconditionally."
There was silence for a beat. Then Jennie's mother turned to her daughter, who was quietly staring at Lisa then she glance at her mother. A small nod from Jennie. A silent approval. And when her mother saw that, she smiled.
"Then I'll support whatever Jennie's decision is. If she still loves you, I'll accept you again."
Lisa's face lit up, tears welling up in her eyes as she chuckled softly. "Thank you... I promise, I won't disappoint you this time."
Jennie shook her head, laughing quietly, amused by the sudden burst of happiness from Lisa. "You better not," she teased.
"Don't waste this opportunity, Lisa." Grandma stood and looked at Jennie's mom. "Come, in law. Let's leave the children first and I have something to show you."
Jennie's mom stood, curious. "Alright. I'm looking forward to it."
As the two older women excused themselves and exited the room, Jennie and Lisa were left alone in the vast living room, silence hanging.
"Are they gone?" Lisa asked carefully.
Jennie, sitting right beside her, nodded. "Yeah."
Lisa reached out, slowly finding Jennie's hand. Her fingers brushed against Jennie's, holding them tightly. "Are you... are you coming back to live here?" she asked, her voice almost too soft to hear.
Jennie blinked, a bit startled. "I'm just here to take care of you until your vision comes back," she said gently, her tone guarded.
Lisa frowned, brows furrowing. "But we're back together, aren't we? Why can't you just stay? Live here. Be my wife again."
