Jennie pushed the door open, stepping inside the familiar warmth of her home. Her shoulders slumped with exhaustion, the weight of the evening still pressing down on her.
She was too tired to think, too drained to feel—yet, her fingers still gripped the bouquet as if it were the only thing grounding her.
As she walked into the living room, her mother's voice cut through the silence.
"Oh? Flowers on the first day of work?" her mom teased, raising a playful brow as she spotted the bouquet in Jennie's hands. "Looks like you already have a suitor, huh?"
Jennie sighed, plopping onto the couch as she lazily rested her head against the cushions. "It's from the buyer of my first piece," she mumbled, rubbing her temples.
Her mother's expression shifted to one of curiosity as she took a seat beside her. "Really? Your buyer must be very sweet and supportive."
A small smile tugged at Jennie's lips. "Yeah... L has always been supportive since I was in New York."
Her mom's eyes twinkled with interest. "L? have you talk to L?"
Jennie shook her head. "No. I don't even know her social media."
"Hmm." Her mom hummed thoughtfully. "A secret admirer, huh?"
Jennie chuckled softly but didn't respond. She was too exhausted to entertain the thought any further.
Her mother gave her a knowing smile before standing up. "Alright, I'll let you rest for now. I'm cooking dinner, so don't disappear before eating, okay?"
Jennie simply nodded, her attention already drifting elsewhere.
As her mother left the room, Jennie turned her gaze to the bouquet, her mind blank—until something caught her eye.
A sticky note.
Her brows furrowed as she leaned in, fingers carefully plucking the note from between the petals. "Had this been here from the beginning?"
She hadn't noticed it earlier when she read the card.
Shaking off the thought, she unfolded the note, her eyes scanning the neat handwriting.
"I wanted to talk to you, but I only just had the courage now. Here's my number: +82-XX-XXXX-XXXX. Talk to you later! :) — L"*
Jennie's heart skipped a beat.
Her fingers tightened around the note as excitement surged through her. L had left her a number. L wanted to talk to her.
Without wasting another second, Jennie bolted upstairs, the fatigue she felt earlier completely forgotten.
"Yah! Where are you going? It's dinner time!" her mother called out from the kitchen, surprised by her sudden burst of energy.
"I'll eat later!" Jennie shouted back, already halfway up the stairs.
Slamming the door behind her. Her fingers flew across the screen as she quickly added the number to her contacts.
Ms. L
That was all she named it.
She hesitated for a brief second before typing her first message.
Jennie: Thank you for supporting me. This is the first time I've received this kind of support from a stranger.
She hit send, her heart racing as she lay down on her bed, staring at the screen. Seconds ticked by. A minute passed. Then another.
And then—her phone vibrated.
