Red. All you could see was a sea of red cars, ambulances, etc. It sickened Leo to think that if just one person had stayed behind, like himself, then Piper wouldn't have been alone. Now she's in terrible condition, physically and probably emotionally. Leo watched as Jason immediately got out of the car before it had stopped, running as hard as he could towards her. Leo didn't know what was going on between the two, and he really didn't like it. Jason and Piper were always a good couple, a good team. It was painful to watch them crumble over a seemingly stupid matter.
Jason had just gotten to Piper as she fell unconscious. He was about to catch her when a buff policeman held him back. Jason was screaming at them to let him through, but they didn't even give it a second thought. They argued, and eventually, Jason gave up and walked back over to the car, his head down.
"What happened, man?" Leo said, patting Jason's back.
"The policeman said that Piper specifically requested that only I couldn't get near her." Jason trudged off to the closest he could get to her; by another ambulance.
Leo was about to go to Piper when Calypso came up to him, looking very pale and walking unsteadily. She collapsed and Leo caught her, feeling how cold she was.
"Caly, you okay? Are you sick? Did you get Ebola? Gods, I thought only Africa-" Calypso looked at him with concern in her eyes.
"Leo, I don't have Ebola. I-I think I just ate some bad food. I don't feel good at all. I'm just going to go lay down and get some rest." Leo helped her get up in a position where she could walk.
"I'll take you up. Here, just lean on me-"
"Leo, you can stay here with Piper. I can manage on my own." Leo started walking Calypso towards the house anyway.
"Piper won't be any less unconscious when I get back. Come on, let's get you some rest." They walked towards the house; well, more like Leo walking and Calypso holding on for dear life.
The second they got to Calypso's room, she rushed to the bathroom and puked her dinner up. Leo felt so bad; there was nothing he could do to help. Food poisoning just kind of had to work its course through you. Note to self: no more going to Chili's.
Calypso stumbled out of the bathroom, grabbing onto the walls to keep upright. Leo went over and held her up then walked her over to her bed. He laid her down, grabbed a blanket, and cuddled up with her. She was freezing cold, which didn't make sense. It was a nice sunny May evening.
"Do you want anything, my dear?" Calypso could barely talk, so she had to whisper.
"Water." Leo went to his right-hand man: his tool belt. He pulled out a bottle of water and a glass, poured some water into it, and tipped it to her dry lips. After a few sips, she was looking better. She could now talk and she said:
"It's weird. I've always had that meal there before. Why did it all of the sudden get me sick now?" Leo was very worried. There was only one thing he knew to do.
"We need an Annabeth."
Leo charged out the door, almost running into a lady cop. This cop looked way too rich and high class to be working such a low paying job, but Leo didn't put too much thought into it. He scanned his surroundings, looking for Annabeth. Jason was still sitting by an ambulance, waiting regardless of what the buff policeman said. Leo finally found Annabeth over by Hazel, comforting one another.
"Annabeth!" Leo shouted several times before he got to her. He was out of breath but managed to spit a few key words out.
"Calypso... sick... bad... quesadilla." Annabeth got the message, gave Hazel one last hug, and went with Leo to Calypso's room.
Annabeth got there and immediately started to get to work. She was doing things Leo didn't think would help, but he knew better than to say that. Of course, she was helping. It's Annabeth we're talking about here.
"Well... I don't know what to say. It's not food poisoning, that I know for sure. She wouldn't be freezing if so. She might just have a bug, but I haven't seen anything like it. I suggest you get professional treatment before this gets worse."
"Yes, Dr. Annabeth. Or do I call you nurse?" Annabeth gave Leo her signature death glare and left. Leo laid down in Calypso's bed, who had fallen asleep already and wrapped his arms around her. He held her tight, hoping and praying that this was just a case of food poisoning after all. With these optimistic thoughts racing through his mind, Leo drifted to sleep.
~
The next morning Leo got up early to make Calypso breakfast in bed. He carefully untangled his arms from around her and as quietly as he could, went downstairs to the kitchen. Leo grabbed the eggs, cheese, tomatoes, basil, and many other ingredients to Caly's favorite breakfast: an omelet with a green smoothie. She always ate healthy foods and stayed in shape, not due to insecurities, but she actually liked that stuff. Girls are really weird.Leo had just finished making breakfast when he heard footsteps; light ones. He quickly acted like he was making it for himself, praying to the gods above that Calypso wouldn't be able to see it was an omelet, when he saw her. Her golden eyes, perfect curly hair, and her chocolate skin. Hazel came down, yawning and stretching. Leo forgot she was an early bird, and quite early. It was 8 a.m. Holy Hera. And she voluntarily gets up this early?!
"Hey there. Making breakfast this early?" Hazel asked in her sweet little voice.
"Yeah. Well, no. Not for me. For Calypso. She isn't feeling well and Annabeth thinks she may need medical attention." Leo said, sadly. Hazel came and gave him a hug.
"It'll be okay. I promise. I'm sure it's just a cold or something. Now go up there and make her feel special." Hazel gleamed, her eyes sparkling as she said it. Leo and Hazel had become very close ever since he had gotten back. Not in a romantic way, but just really good buddies. Leo would show her the ways of his generation and she would tell him all about Sammy. Who would've thought that there actually was a Leo, before Leo was born?
Leo scurried upstairs to find Calypso, not in her bed. The bathroom door was swung open. He put down the food and went to her, worry filling every ounce of his being. She was sitting on the cold tile, barfing her brains out. She looked miserable, and that killed Leo inside. He sat by her and rubbed her back, reassuring her that it would all be okay. After she was done, Leo gave her the omelet and smoothie, Calypso gave him a kiss, and he left her alone (to her request, of course). After that, Leo told her they needed to go to the doctor, and they did so.
Leo scheduled an appointment beforehand and was there on the dot. The doctor was ready for them, a special doctor. Chiron himself recommended him since he was a doctor for the gods and occasionally demigods in the mortal world. He ran tests on her, did the whole pee-in-a-cup thing. He finished but didn't look satisfied. He had a look of confusion spread across his face, which only added to the reasons why Leo was about to die of worry. The doctor finally decided to share his thoughts.
"Well, your girlfriend here is sure sick alright. But this is something out of my expertise, which is highly unusual."
"What do you mean 'out of my expertise'? Can you help her or not?!" Leo demanded. Calypso put a hand on his shoulder, giving him a look that meant he needed to calm down.
"What I'm saying is that I haven't seen anything like this before. Never dealt with any disease like this. Calypso here now contains a new virus the world has yet to see. It could be nothing, or much worse than anything we could handle. Without proper care, this girl could die at any given moment."
