STATUS UPDATE #03: 05.05.13

Kind Reader:
I'm happy to post Chapters 4 and 5 from my novella "How Does Your Garden Grow'. These sections focus first on Dectective Harper investigating Lilly's case, and then providing back story for Irma King, the old woman with the walled garden. Once again, you will see the point of view shift, first to Harper, then to Irma. Please note that I've added a little something to the end of Chapter 3. There you'll find the first sentence of Chapter 4. This is a technique you sometimes see in film where the beginning of one scene overlaps the end of another.
Don't worry, Lilly will be back straight away. I'm not sitting down to write another Lilly scene.

I'm happy to post Chapter 3 from my novella How Does Your Garden Grow. This section focuses on Lilly and is told from her point of view. The more I write about Lilly, the more I like her. I hope you feel the same. No changes have been made to the other chapters yet.

"How Does Your Garden Grow" is a work in progress. I invite you to follow this story and participate as a beta reader, providing feedback along the way.
My plan is to write this story as a novella in the neighborhood of 30,000 to 40,000 words. But be forewarned. From the first word to the last, including the cover art, everything is subject to change. By the time the last chapter is written, the first chapter will have been re-written several times, so you'll get to see how the characters and even the story's structure evolves. So you'll want to keep an eye on chapters you've already read. They just may change after you've read them. I hope you'll be a part of this journey by providing insightful comments. Your feedback will be instrumental in helping me make this story the best it can be.
If you're wondering what kind of tale this is, or where it will eventually lead, I can't tell you much because I don't know. I generally start with a concept and let the characters drive the story. Stephen King and his skill at telling dark, suspenseful tales about ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances has been my greatest influence, so I think you can expect "How Does Your Garden Grow" to follow Mr. King's lead.
Not sure if following this story is worth your time? I encourage you to look at my last story, the completed novella, "Snow Day" as evidence that your time will be well spent on following this story. The first five chapters of "Snow Day" are available here on wattpad (http://www.wattpad.com/story/5167221-snow-day). The completed work is on sale at Amazon.com (http://amzn.to/10f4imW).

I look forward to your thoughts on either “How Does Your Garden Grow” or “Snow Day’.
Thanks.
