Ten years ago..........
"Will you stop for me Yuri?" (Jin-ae shouted, her voice overflowing with happiness).
Yuri- Can't you just walk a bit faster; it's like a dream restaurant, we got the reservation at seven, hurry up. (She replied with excitement, her voice rose in pitch, filled with joy).
"Yuri", she came into Jin-Ae's life like a sudden gush of wind through spring blossoms, carried an unforeseen solace with her, solace that Jin-ae never knew she was yearning for years.
When she saw Yuri for the first at her father's office, standing there in the hallway, so beautiful, her smile illuminating everything around her and Jin-Ae who was always been under the shadows of her father's stubbornness, a persistent fighter, who was fighting to be seen, fighting to be heard, yet never received the credit she truly deserved.
She never been welcomed in his father's company by himself, rather she earned the position she went for, she even never disclosed her true identity to anyone in the office, worked as a normal employee, in hope maybe one day her father will approve of her, but it only dragged her deeper into the darkness than she ever was.
But soon the darkness had lastly released its grasp and light poured in slowly, and on one spring day, when her father scolded her harshly in front of all. When the world seems like a prison, with no doors and walls were too high, to escape, she found a coffee kept on her desk along with a note from Yuri, which had only a scribble of smile on it.
Perhaps the same smile, that held her gaze for longer than a moment and stole her heart forever. Started a story with disastrous ending, stolen glances, turned into untamed hopes. But for the first time in her life Jin-ae was happy, though that happiness didn't last long.......
The restaurant was peaceful, where the world seemed to be in slow-motion, candlelight was flickering, along with Yuri's innocent giggles.
Jin-Ae- If I knew before, you'll be so happy to be here, I would ask you out the day I saw you for the first time. (Her fingers brushed against Yuri's and a small smile shone her face).
Yuri- and I would have said yes, even back then. (She smiled; her eyes glowed under the golden lights, never leaving eye contact with Jin-ae).
Jin-ae- really, I thought you didn't even know, if I existed then. (She asked with hesitation, trying to hide her lifelong vulnerability).
Yuri- Why you thought that?? (she questioned curiously). You are too pretty; to ignore, do you know that. (rested her chin on her hand, with starry eyes only for Jin-Ae).
With that they both laughed together, carefree and without any burden, their conversation flowed between shared smiles, and comfortable silence, it just like a dream for Jin-ae.
Though time was rushing by, she desired what if time would be slowed a bit, so she could feel her heart beat, as if it was beating for the time ever. But all things fade, and dreams shatters.
When she reached home that night, Jin-Ae felt as if a rigid flood drowned out all in its way, her eyes blurred as she could no longer see anything but a shadowy terror.
Mr. Choi- you always been nothing but a shame to our family. (He slapped her, grind out the words between clenched teeth). The empire I have made and earned such a name myself, just a matter of a moment and you were going to bury it in the dust. (his eyes showed nothing but disgust, and Jin-Ae's bleed with fear), isn't this disgust you like it should?
