'We'll arrive in Germany in twenty minutes,' told a woman through the speakers as I'm tapping with my fingertips on the table in front of me. I was looking to Germany. The Netherlands is a lot smaller then Germany. We came closer to the ground and finally I could see buildings. Home sweet home. The Germans are walking through the street. They look like little dolls. The stewardess came collecting the trash and finally we were safe at the ground again. I stood immediately up and took my bag. I walked to the door and was the first one who left the plane. I walked to the building and walked to the baggage band. The lights goes on and then I heard a beep. Then the band started moving. The first one was a pink suitcase. Not mine. The second one was a black bag. Also not mine. The third was mine. A grey suitcase with stickers from England. Someone gave me a sticker from the Netherlands on the airport. I don't know what's written on it but I see wooden clogs. I also have a sticker from Belgium in my pocket. I tried to get my suitcase. I was pulling and pushing but it doesn't move. Then a boy came and helped me. I gave him a thankful smile and walked away.
I heard a boy talking through the speakers. His German was very bad, but his English had an accent. It reminded me of Thomas. I remember the first day I went to his room, knocked on the door and he opened the door with messy hair. His girlfriend was getting ready and I still don't know where she was going to. I heard them talk and from that moment I heard his thick English accent, which was adorable. I smiled and walked through the big hallways. My suitcase made a lot of noise.
'I like your hair like that,' I heard a familiar voice saying. My hand goes upwards to my hair and I was touching the bun I made this morning. I turned around to see a blonde boy. Thomas.
'How did you come here?' I asked.
'I expected more something like:,' he made his voice more girlish, '"Oh, Thomas. I'm so glad to see you. I missed you!"'
I started to laugh and ran over to him. He widened his arms and I accepted the embrace. 'You're stupid,' I said.
'Why?'
'Because I've said you have to stay in England.'
'You have said that. And I have said no. So here I am,' he said widening his arms again and waving with his hands like he is a quizmaster.
I laughed and walked to my suitcase.
'Do you have a hotel or house?' I asked while we walked through the dark streets of Berlin.
'I'm in the same hotel as you,' he said smiling.
'How did you know in which hotel I stayed?'
'You searched hotels on my laptop, Aline. There's something called "browser history".'
I laughed again. 'You're a stalker.'
'To see you laughing is worth the stalking.'
Luckily it was dark and he can't see my red cheeks. I was blushing like an idiot.
'So what are we going to do now?' he said.
'I'm going to the hotel. It's 9 o'clock. I need a breakfast.' I said looking to my watch.
'Now I'm hungry. Let's run, than we're earlier at the hotel,' Thomas answered and he started to run.
I smiled and ran.
It took 2 minutes to arrive at the hotel. The receptionist was very moody.
We had the keys and we were neighbours. I walked into my room and closed the door before Thomas could enter my hotelroom.
After 5 minutes I heard a knock. I walked to the door and opened it. Thomas was standing in front of my room handing me a plate with toasts.
'You said you was hungry. Here you go,' he said smiling.
'Thanks,' I said.
Thomas walked into the room. 'Cool.'
'What?'
'We have exactly the same room,' he said as he looked around and he sat down on the couch.
I sat down next to him and an awkward silence filled the room.
'So what are we going to do?' Thomas said.
'I don't know. I have to visit Helena tonight.'
'Can I meet her?'
'Ofcourse,' I said smiling.
He smiled back.
Again an awkward silence filled the room. Thomas placed his hand on mine. 'Aline, don't be afraid, okay?'
I nodded and looked at him to see him smiling.
'Good,' he said.
I smiled. Our eyes were locked in each others. I came closer, and I did something I've never expected. I kissed him. And he kissed back. Butterflies flew around in my stomach. Then Thomas pulled away and stood up. 'I'm sorry, Aline. I can't do this,' he said, making his way to the door.
'What?' I said before he could leave.
'I can't kiss you, because I just want to be friends. Only friends,' he said and he left the room.
