Chapter 1 - Eden Woods
Thursday 9th June, 2011
Oh my word was he real or was I dreaming? It may sound extremely clichéd when I say that I think I may have found the one but in reality, he stumbled upon me. Literally, and may I add that I was completely nude! Oh the shame and embarrassment I felt as my face turned beet red. So let’s rewind three hours back to know what happened.
(Three hours before)
So let’s see, there’re two words to describe my current mood, one being an adverb. Utterly bored. I know what you’re thinking. Either that I have access to the internet which contains approximately 155,583,825 sites or ‘go read a book Sherlock.’ If you weren’t thinking either of these, well kudos to you but please do tell what your thought was because I’m utterly clueless. My problem which may seem like laziness is that, honestly, I’m lazy. There’s no better way of putting it.
To help quell my ‘utter boredom’ I found myself staring out the glass wall of my huge room with a wistful gaze. Sinking into the soft cushion of the loveseat I let out an audible sigh which made the muscles of my neck and back relax considerably. The sun was leaving me with a perfectly inactive day resulting in a lethargic feeling. A myriad of warm colours danced and caressed each other in front of me, in a silent prayer trying to dispel the fear of the oncoming darkness.
My eyelids became increasingly heavy with each passing second blurring the sight of green from the woods outside with the spectrum of yellows and oranges from the setting sun. The constant dripping of water from the tap in my bathroom set my mind working at a slower pace and slowly but surely I fell into an unfathomable slumber.
I awoke to the smell of wet grass and dirt and the alarmingly creepy call of some nocturnal creature. I was face down on the damp earth; no wonder the smell was so distinct. Pushing myself up into a sitting position and then standing, I dusted the dirt from behind my blue jeans whilst doing a three-sixty turn to hopefully get my bearings right.
There was a dim light in the distance and moving towards it I realised it was from my bedroom. I was currently standing on outskirts of Eden Woods looking directly at my slumped body on a black loveseat a floor above me. I know this should’ve freaked me out because I was here yet my body was there, and according to the law of some subject, maybe quantum physics, this was not possible. But I wasn’t in the slightest bit worried because I heard the soothing voice of a woman urging me to go into the woods.
Hearing voices were definitely warning flags for going totally bonkers or mental. However, I didn’t mind the voice because it made me feel warm and safe, the complete opposite of how I was feeling before; cold in my thin, light blue, long sleeved shirt and dark blue jeans, and uncomfortable because of the freaky sound the creature was making.
Moving into the woods, the trees became denser and the place darker as the moonlight was being blocked by the foliage above. The twigs and leaves made a crunching sound as my feet slaughtered them. I wrapped my arms around my upper body hugging myself because the woman’s voice suddenly evaporated into thin air returning the cold feeling to my limbs.
Looking around quickly, I could no longer see the light from my bedroom. My surrounding was blanketed by complete darkness and I could no longer discern a tree stump from flying frog. Panicking I began to search wildly with my arms outstretched in front of me for a way out of this place. I tripped slightly multiple times but was agile enough to right myself before I fell face first onto the damped dirt or worse, collided with a tree trunk. Wouldn’t that be an experience?
I tripped again but my luck and agility ran out because I was sent catapulting over an uprooted root I think, falling face first into the dirt.
Groaning in frustration I muttered a few choice words one of which may have began with F and ended with E, yes you guessed it right, fudge.
