(HOPES POV)

I stumbled back into the bedroom to see Copeland asleep on her fathers chest, JR was snuggled up beside them with Kellins arm around his neck. My heart melted at the sight of them, Kellin was such an amazing father it was unbelievable. Then my heart began to break as I felt a strong sob get caught in my throat. My God, what was I thinking? How could I start a family with one as dangerous as my own? I love Kellin so much and here I was about to break his heart. It was only a matter of time before Mom and Austin found me and my family, I knew it. You know those feelings you get when you suspect something and you know it is going to happen, but you hope it won't anyways? That was the feeling I had in the pit of my stomach. They were coming for me and it was just a matter of time. I went back downstairs and settled down on the sofa, I didn't want to wake JR or Copeland up. Or even Kellin. I grabbed a blanket and covered up, knowing it was going to be a long and lonely night.

(KELLINS POV)

I felt so despairing. I hated seeing Hope flinch when the phone rang, or when someone knocked on the door. She was so scared and nervous about Austin and Lynn, her sleeping schedule was all over the place, she was quiet, and dazed off a lot. During her hardest days, she would stay in bed all day curled up with JR and Copeland. It killed me to see her so broken and I knew I couldn't help her. She wouldn't be better, until Lynn and Austin were locked up in prison again.

I grabbed a water from the refrigerator and was making my way into the living room, when Nick called me.

"Hello?", I answered.

"Hey man. I was calling to check on you and Hope"

"Thanks, dude. We're alright."

"Well if there's anything I can do let me know, alright?"

"Alright.. Well, there actually is one thing"

"Anything"

"Can you be here in about an hour and watch JR and Copeland?"

"Yeah, see you in an hour."

Nick hung up and so did I.

"Who was that?", Hope asked.

"Nick."

"Oh."

I saw the disappointment in her eyes. She was hoping it was Charles with news about Lynn or Austin.

"Nick's coming over and agreed to watch JR and Copeland for a little while"

"What? Why?"

"We're going out"

"Kellin, what's going on? I don't want to-"

I stopped her, "I know. I don't want to leave them either but we'll be back within an hour, okay?"

"Where are we going?"

"It's a surprise"

"Kellin.."

"Nope. It's a surprise"

And for the first time in what felt like years, I finally saw a real smile spread across Hope's face.

*********

I sat beside Hope as we ate our food, I smiled at her. I was so happy she was finally able to get out of the house and enjoy herself.

"Do you think the kids are okay?", Hope said.

"I'm sure they are fine. Nick said Jack and Jenna were on their way over as well."

Hope smiled, "Thank you, Kellin."

I reached across the table and planted a small kiss on her lips. She blushed at me and I smiled, it was amazing to finally see her happy and smiling. I love her smile so much. It couldn't get any more perfect than that.

After an hour and a half lunch, Hope and I were going stir crazy without JR and Copeland, so we left the diner in hopes that traffic wouldn't be too crazy. Thankfully it wasn't. When we pulled into our driveway, I was astonished to find three police cars and an ambulance in the driveway. What was going on? I quickly got out of the car with a shaking Hope by my side. I grabbed her hand, scared of what was going on. What about my kids? Were they okay?

"This is a crime scene, you can't enter, sir", a police officer said.

"But I live here!", I objected.

"You two are the owners?"

"Yes", I confirmed, "now what's going on? Are my kids okay?"

"What kids?"

"Oh my God..", Hope trailed off.

I caught her by her waist and held her tightly, what have I done?
