It was the last night that I would be staying at my camp. My haven for the last 2 years. I would still miss the familiar smells of the morning air and the feeling of grass under my feet. One thing would stay with me, though.
My head was propped behind my head as I gazed into the dark sky. They'll still be there, everywhere. They won't leave me either. Arthur sat on a stump next to me.
“Do you think Henry's been buried by now?” I asked.
“Yes. The Grey Cloaks have probably already visited him.” Arthur replied back.
“Do you believe that there's another world out there, full of peace. Some people have told me you go there after your journey in the dark forest. Once the Kings have deemed you worthy, you live in eternal light, forever. I wonder if Henry had to walk through the dark forest or he could skip it all and live in Edineth.”
“I do believe, Rose, that your mind is filled with imagination. The Kings have decided your brother's fate. I know now he rests in peace in Edineth, waiting for you to come and join him.”
“How do you know?' I asked.
“I just know things. I know your brother Henry like he was my own brother. Kind, forgiving, understanding, he didn't have to be trialed.”
I knew that Henry was never trialed in the dark forest. I wanted to hear Arthur speak about Henry in a memorable way. I loved to hear his voice. I didn't feel alone with him as we gazed at the stars.
“Its a habit of your isn't it?”Arthur asked.
“Of what?”
“To always look at the stars every night. Do you expect something to happen?”
“Yes. Something spectacular. I don't know if it'll happen or not but I have hope that it will someday while I'm breathing.”
“A life stone falling through the sky. If I see it fall, I know my job has been complete as a Halfbreed.”
“I made you something. Something to remind you of this place.” Arthur handed me a locket with a glass vial about the size of my toe. Inside lay a single petal from one the Elderflower tree. As soon as her hand touched the glass the petal glowed.
“Thanks, Arthur. I hope this lasts forever.” I gave him a small smile. He smiled back. With a grudge I closed my eyes and dreamed of a falling star.
