I woke up slowly. I thought I was in a dream at first. I was floating in a white and bright world. For a couple of seconds I thought I was dead. Then I saw her.

A tall women walked towards me. Her skin was blue but her eyes were a bright violet. In her hands grasped a rose. Her dress was a pale grey. Long blond hair twisted down her back. Alyania.

“I know this burden is heavy. I know. It is much bigger than what I faced.” Her voice sailed over me like a morning sunrise. “I'm here to help. There is no way you can do this by yourself. The rose I have in my hand is my life source. If you become one with me, you'll never be alone. With our powers combined you can be the person the world expects. For once, you'll have pointed ears. Your powers will double in strength. Your looks will change too. Is this what you want, Rose?”

“I'm not sure. Will there still be me?”

“Of course. I am just lending you what powers I have left. With it, you can defeat Saul.”

“I accept.” Alyania nodded. She grasped the rose until her knuckles turned white. Blood dripped from her fingers. She held one hand up. She wiped her blood on my mouth.

“Drink it. Then you will inherit my powers.” I licked my lips and finally I swallowed. Instantly I cringed. I felt my body twist. I thought I heard my scream. I felt my senses heightening. Every bone in my body screamed. The scar on my back burned. I heard Alyania's voice. Calming me. I knew it was over. Then I woke up.

Alagos was standing over me. Concern was ratted all over his face. His eyes looked astonished as I got up. Something was different. I could tell by the way Ten and Alagos looked at me. Something was wrong.

“What? What are you staring at?” I questioned.

Ten brought up a small mirror to my face. Instantly I cringed. My eyes were no longer brown but instead a violet.

“Look! The rose has withered!” Alagos said. I looked and saw the white rose loose its petals and finally collapsed.

“It is true. The legends have spoken.” Ten said.

“What? What has happened? Tell me!” I screamed.

“It seems that Alyania has passed down her powers to you.”

“What powers? This can't be true? I didn't want to take your life source away!”

“Your eyes have changed. The eyes you have now are Alyania's. They were used by her to see people's emotions. Sometimes you can read their minds. Also as a quality you can see great distances as clear as day. Along with having Dark Elven eyes, you can see in the dark. Only those that Alyania herself has chosen are given this power. That is what the legends hold and they are true.”

My vision began to turn into a multitude of colors. Ten was a yellow. I could see him smiling deep inside himself. This was how I could read people's emotions, by their color. I looked at Alagos and saw him as a dark blue color. I knew that he was sad. Sad for what I had done. I had taken what was left of Alyania.

In a rage I saw him turn red and then walk away with frustration. I ran after him.

“Alagos! Wait! Don't be angry!” I yelled as I caught up to him. His hands were pulled into fists as he whirled around to meet my gaze.

“You didn't have to. You didn't have to say yes. Instead you ruined what was left of the woman I loved. Now I see her in your eyes. I see her eyes. I can't even look at you.”

“Alagos, please, try and understand. She chose me to be your savior. She chose me to protect what she could not. I said yes because it is my duty. I must carry out her final wishes.” Alagos turned his face away. In anger I yanked his face down with my open hand. “You will look at my eyes and tell her that you will understand.” Alagos paused as he stared into my violet eyes. His green eyes widened with tears.

He kneeled on the ground and grasped my hands. Tears poured down his face. The color he bore was a mix of everything. He had emotions flowing through him to resemble a rainbow. A beautiful rainbow. One color struck out. A light blue. The color of the sky. Sorrow. Pure and utter sorrow. One word whispered through his lips, “I'm sorry.”

He got up and left. I stared at his back until he disappeared. I could feel another presence behind me. I turned around to only be greeted by Ten.

“He has still not forgiven you?” I shook my head. “I thought by now he would've changed his mind. Even when you changed he still has not. My brother holds grudges easily. I will speak to him as much as I can.”

“No, don't. Leave him be. He needs time to think things through. So do I. Is there a room I can sleep?”

“Yes. Follow me. We prepared it just for you.” Ten lead me to a staircase on the side of the circular chamber. We went up and up until we reached the top. There rested a bed under the glowing flowers of the Elderflower tree. There was nothing else. Just a bed. I would've taken nothing else to sleep under the ancient blossoms.

“You read my mind! Thank you so much! I'll sleep good tonight.” I replied.

“There is an extra change of clothes. If you need to freshen up before you rest there is a lake just on the other side of the tree. If you dare you can dive into the lake. Its deep enough I promise. I always brag to Alagos about diving contests.” He chuckled to himself. “Well. I'll leave you to yourself. I'll wake you up when we start supper.”

Minutes passed and I still didn't feel alone. I felt another presence with me, near me. I knew it was Alyania. She was inside me. With a giggle I jumped onto my soft bed and closed my eyes. Even through my closed eyes I could see the bright, glowing lights coming from the branches. My mind began to wander. Dreams took me to another place.
